Soob turns right - from the pilots seat - like all "real airplane engines".

Tractor 2 stroke Rotax gear box prop is same as  belt drive Rotax 2 stroke pusher.  Both use a left hand prop. 912 Rotax turns in the opposite direction as the Rotax 2 stroke.  Not sure what direction the Suberu turns in.  My Culver prop is a left hand.  Jabiru tractor used a righthand prop, just like a Continental.   Jim Chuk

I can't completely commit yet, but I will as soon as I have a plane to fly up there! I supposed I could fly the Teenie up but I'd have to send myself a package with my camping gear, or go without changing clothes that week, which I'm pretty sure people wouldn't like!

We can start the roll call-- I will be there all week, Saturday through the following Sunday. I will be camping across the street from the ultralight red barn with my EAA chapter. My wife and I both volunteer at the ultralight area.

With a little luck, Joey(C5Engineer) will be joining me.

I get that question from towers that have radar capability all the time. I just respond, "negative transponder". I've never had them question it again.

if its spinning the right direction it works.. or it has in the past for me in other applications.  The issue is if your trying the spin the tractor prop in a reverse direction, then of course that wont work.

Leni, the tractor prop cant be used as a pusher - it just don't work that way.  backwards, the leading edge becomes the trailing edge - unless they are symmetrical, and I don't know about the Ivo.

and this thread is WORTHLESS without pics!  I have been thinking of a hovercraft myself.. It would be the ticket for up at the lodge as long as I could lift 600-100 pounds.. how big of one is he building?

if he is spinning in the right direction, cant you just put a tractor prop on backwards?  it would be sorta pulling, not pushing, but it shouldnt matter if rotation is correct.

  11. EDMO added a post in a topic Flaperon Question

    Randy,
I would be a little cautious about the single sheet of aluminum sticking out of the flaperon because of possible flutter.  I would think that if you used 2 sheets, one on each side of trailing edge, and riveted together at their trailing edge, you would have a much stiffer setup.   I think you could go 100%.
Have you thought about rechecking balance?  And maybe, reinforcing rib ends?

Randy, I was flying into ENA the other day in my brothers pacer and the tower was hassling me cause I didnt have a transponder.. I was like .. :wth: I can fly into Lake hood, or Merril and not need one, but Kenai suddenly thinks they are ANC and wants to play with the big boys?  Must be something new cause they didnt ask me about it when I flew the 180 out of there this fall.

  13. akflyer added a post in a topic This looks weird. Why?

careful Randy.. someone is gonna question our manhood again if we keep talking about big tires   Of course, I would love said people to come play on the sands of the mac. river with 600s.  I will be the guy laughing and videoing the heli lifting their pile of rubbish off the sand bar.

Or watch them trying to land in the tundra with a tire that takes more than 2-3 PSI in it.  Its always fun to camp out and watch your buddy try to weld the fuse and put new gear under his plane while your out shooting animals and having a good time

hmmm.. I like where your going with this!  I can see roll forces getting heavier, but it could add some benefit too on the flaps.  I am still tinkering with the idea of splitting them so I can have flaps 40 and full aileron.  Not sure if I really need it though once I get the dadgum 800 in it.

Ahh, cool!  We used to do it with a mini 14.  If your in the rear, careful of the wing strut!  I know of more than one cub driver who heard the nasty bang bang bang ting as the gunner was watching the bullet hit the snow and trying to walk it in on the wolf with no regard to the location of the wing strut

Shooting out of the plane is fun, but it takes a bit to get it down.  Kind of like trying to hit a road sign with a beer bottle.. ya gotta get the lead dialed in!

Unless you want an IFA trim tab, and want to rebuild your elevator, then a small 2"x6" flat aluminum tab riveted to the inner part of the elevator trailing edge is the easiest - just add it and guesstimate a 5 degree bend to start with, then fly and straighten or add more bend as you need.  Bend it opposite of the way you want your nose to go.

I don't think he follows this forum, I hope he doesn't just call an end to the Avid line of aircraft, it is so close to being an aircraft that could go LSA that I would like to see it continue. I know the Kitfox has made it through some tough times, but the right salesman could bring the Avid back into todays world.

Randy, do you even have anywhere near you that you'd need one for? I got thinking about it, it just made me laugh! Can't say that I haven't posted something before and then gone back and looked and it thinking, "what the hell was I thinking!"

    Joey,
As an old retiree, I try to stay "on the cheap" as much as possible - If your Dad has a set of 72" tractor blades and a hub that fits a Soob, I might be interested if he wants to get rid of them.
Otherwise, I will keep looking for some Warp Drive blades to fit my hub, or a WD prop.

  22. SuberAvid added a post in a topic New Fat Avid owner

Welcome BanjoPlayer.  It is great to have another Fat Avid member on board!  If you read this forum much you will find I am a pretty happy with mine.  I finished mine in 2010 and have a bit over 300 hours on it now,  Willis just got his flying and hopefully JackAk will have his flying by this spring (it is just about to the point where we can bring it out to the hanger and put all the parts on it at the same time to make it an airplane).  Just keep after it every week and you will get it done.  We look forward to hearing progress reports and will try to answer any questions you have.

On the wing spar spacing; yes, there was a problem with the jig and the front and rear carry through tubes were set slightly too close.  It sounds like Bruce or someone remedied that by moving the rear carry through tube.  I considered that option but talked to Steve Winder about it and he recommended heating and benting the front tube ends forward slightly.  that is the option that JackAk and I chose to do and I also wended in a tab to add a little extra support in case the bending weakened it some. See the attached pics.  Moving the rear carry through should be OK if the rewelding of the collector point was done well; althjough a lot more effort and complicated.

Keep us posted and let us know if we can help.

(Oh, I own a banjo but found I have no talent for playing it)

Randy, I'm talking about a transponder, not ELT. The plane does have an ELT.

A 121.5 will get you legal even if they are no longer monitored.  The are very cheap for that reason.
