    Grove landing gear
I have been searching for a Kitfox model 4 with a 912s to replace my model 2 with a 582.
I also want taller gear for more angle of attack
I like the simplicity of the Grove gear but had the impression it weighed 30#'s more than the stock gear so I never considered it.
I called Grove and they told me the their complete gear with mounting brackets for a model 4 weighs 30#'s and they could make it a few inches taller.
So how much weight does the Grove gear really ad?
It is expensive compared to the alternatives.
It's design should be more aerodynamic.
How well does it absorb landing loads, especially on rocks with ABW's compared to the stock bungee gear I am using now?
It seems this forum has been cautious about the durability of the aftermarket "Bush Gears" so I have been looking for other options.
How durable is the Grove Gear and how it attaches to the longerons?
Thanks for sharing your "Gear" experiences.
Still searching for a Kitfox model 4-1200 with a 912s.
    Thanks Herman

hello everyone,my name is mike and I thought I would introduce myself.i purchased an avid model c back in march and it is finally ready to return to the air.The wings have been recovered and painted so I then had to rejuvenate the fuse and repaint to match. Then there was the engine ,it ran but ran rough and wouldn't sync ,turned out low comp on two cyl,so I replaced it with a new rebuilt long block.oh yeah its an ea81,was unsure about the Subaru until I got the new one ,it is one smooth little engine.yada yada yada I shouldn't have bought a project, for flying price. but  ill say this ,I love my avid and I know exactly what I have. The rudder should be done this weekend and then the annual ,should be flying after that.it hasnt flown since 1997.thanx for an awesome site ,I learn some thing new every time I log on.     a few pictures of the avid and my other plane a tbird

Congrats on a good looking plane Randy!  It sounds like you will really be enjoying it.  Some of the guys that are using that cabane gear have gone to a longer travel spring that will help keep it from bottoming out and stacking metal to metal.  Joey, Paul and Larry may be able to give you some updates on that.  I think it is really a matter of getting the travel long enough that it won't bottom out the spring even on a hard landing.  Bungees tend to be more forgiving in that respect.

Keep posting your experiences and pictures.

I haven't quite figured out what is legal to do in going from certified to experimental.  From reading the information I have seen on the EAA web site and their "ask the DAR" articles, it seems to be impossible to do that but I keep hearing that it is being done.  The DAR who inspected my plane said that it is even questionable to use certifired parts on an experimental according to the FAA but he does not see that doing so violates any part of the 51% rule.  Seems to be a lot of misinformation out there.  I know there are a lot of certified AC owners that think it is a piece of cake to just change thier planes to experimental if they got the whim to do so.  Seems this would be very difficult from what I have read.  Does anyone had first hand knowledge doing this?

Having an ELSA with the repairmen's certificate is the best IMHO.  Even an SLSA appears to be too much like a certified aircraft.

I was happy to go with the liquid-cooled engine heater because it eliminates the chance of a crack in the heat muff letting CO into the cabin - at least thru the cabin-heat system.
Someone has a heater listed in the for sale section on here.
The heaters I have will about melt you - but they weigh 13 pounds.

I wouldn't consider any else but a coolant style cabin heater with a 912. Mine has two computer fans on it. Comfy cabin down to zero degrees.

    Cabin Heat
I have an Avid MKIV with the standard cabin heat setup that takes air from behind the radiator using the supplied scoop. This is not working, anyone have a muff style heat setup that is working. I have been thinking about adding an opening in the cowl so that the muff gets ram air to supply the muff. Any thoughts. The engine is a 912.

Yup.  We'll be away over Thanksgiving but will be home right through December.  Keep me posted.  I can even go to a freight terminal an have them drop it into the bed of the truck.  I've done that sort of thing often and it saves the local delivery cost.

Today's reminder that it only takes a second
This guy had been flying Helo's for 50 years and got himself killed by a rotor while trying to grab his hat after it blew off. Just a reminder that it only takes a split second lack of concentration in Aviation to have disasterous results. Tragic... Rest in Peace Sir.

No, and there is a high probability that I will be moving the Aerotrek from SLSA to ELSA after the next inspection.

Thanks everyone for your help in getting my 582 sorted out. I flew the S7 for the first time today.  The engine ran great, all temps were well in the green. It was my first time behind a two stroke, I was impressed.  The engine was smooth and had plenty of power.  You guys really are a great resource and really helped get my confidence up in the motor.
Now I have to decide between the KF and the S7 errrrrrr

I have the E-1 in mine and I really like it.  No problem reading it in any lighting condition.  I hooked up the water temp sender instead of the oil temp sender on mine; just seemed to make a little more sense on a water cooled engine.
