Just checked my catalog, part # is 06-12400.  It's and old catolog, but probably still the same #.   Color was mostly white with red flecks.   Jim

Flu taxi cut the screen off the one you bought and solder it onto the one you have. I don't think they make one in our size. This has been discussed somewhere a while back.

I've had this theory for quite some time after running 1200 gallons and nearly 300 hrs of ethanol laced Chevron 91 octane through my 23 yr old fiberglass tanks. I've premixed since day one. I pull my fuel outlets out twice a year and screw a 6" straight brass piece into the tank fitting with a 3ft hose on it and drain my tanks through a strainer. I've found a few pieces of crud but nothing that scared me. I have a filter between the header and the shutoff valve and a gascolator between the shutoff valve and the carbs on the firewall but I think it's overkill. The low spot is the bottom of the header.

The best part of premix are the looks you get on a cross country when a spam can driver watches me pour oil into my ratio rite cup on the tire and then pour it into the wing!!!

    Thanks,

I'll keep the lighter one in mind if I can get away with it. Since Bryce and I think alike, and he needs the weight in the back, I now expect to need the weight. I had hoped that without the Grove gear, I could reduce some ballast.... oh well just switching gear saves almost 25#. (40 vs 15 for the bush gear). Still working on the brake pedal geomtry and seat.

    Mixed fuel vs Oil Injection
Wanted to share an experience with you that may determine mixed gas or injection.   When I first started messing around with gas around my lexan I spilled straight 87 octane on one of the doors.  The lexan instantly turned white.  I replaced it and never thought of it again until I spilled gas on the other door.  This time the door was not affected near as bad and I actually sprayed windex on it and wiped it off.  No apparent damage to the lexan.  I could not figure out why the difference until I relized that I mixed the gas with two stroke oil 50/1.

I have seen several discussions about alcohol in fuel and the affect of fuel on the fiberglass tanks.   I am wondering if fiberglass tanks are better protected on the inside by mixing the gas.  It does add a level of safety and based upon my experience with the lexan, something changed the ability of the gas to destroy lexan when it is mixed with 2 stroke oil.

    This is just a guess.

Test a piece of lexan yourself and see if you get the same results.

I've bought it from Aircraft Spruce a few times.  Last time was about 2 months ago.  I think it was $1.22 per ft.  It's good stuff!  Jim

    I need your help...
My fuel fitting is broken... and i read about the finger strainers and so on... yesterday i ordered the finger strainer from spruce and the fitting... but it is tooooo big for my avid mk4 tank.
My tank fitting is 1/8" not 3/8"...  and inside of the 1/8"fitting elbow 90... was a finger strainer... yes inside the 1/8"npt brass elbow fitting.

Where can i buy this 1/8" fitting with finger strainer inside?

No things by spruce, no one at airwolf, no one at ulm technologie ... and no fly without fuel-fitting+strainer

    thanks

I didn't win my first foray into public office today.  (I ran a very quiet [nonexistent] campaign for town board.)

I lost 211 to 453.  Considering I didn't do any, flyers, advertising, or campaigning at all, that's not too bad...

Extremely interesting report Doug - I quickly thought of 3 airports that I used to fly from, and they are no longer there - wonder how many more are gone, but the memories still linger.   Lots of small strips were built during WW2, and a lot of them are probably gone now.

    Abandoned and Little-Known Airfields website
    http://www.airfields-freeman.com/

Freeman got the idea for his Abandoned & Little-Known Airfields website when technology finally caught up to his own curiosity. "In the late 1990s, I realized that the availability of aerial photos over the web gave me the ability to examine what remained at the locations of abandoned airfields sometimes depicted on aeronautical charts," he said. "I typically look through my archival material, and do Google searches to accumulate information for the starting point for a new write-up. Once it is posted, the write-up typically 'snowballs' as readers send in more material."

maintenance hangar, with a variety of general aviation aircraft.
One of those "write-ups" was for Willamette Airpark / T-Bird Airport, a long-lost airfield in Eugene, OR. I discovered this old field on Freeman's site, and sure enough, when I returned to the location just 2NM from my home, you can still see the remnants of Runway 12/30. Here's some excerpts from Freeman and his collaborators after doing some sleuthing on this field:

I used the Odyssey PC625 battery which weighs 13lbs.  It is way overkill for the 582 but I wanted some reserve for electrical stuff and sure starts, etc.  The PC625 also is one of the cheaper models of this brand.  You could probably use the PC310 which is only 6lbs but I think its too pricey.

  20. Guest added a post in a topic 912 Carb Balance

    Hi Paul,

I would think that adding a "neutralizer" spring would result in poorly balanced carbs throughout the throttle travel, because the cables are not in tension therefore would not be assured of positive throttle position relative to each other.

The way I see it both carb cables have to be tensioned whether tensioned to idle or tensioned to full throttle in order to maintain proper balance. Seem to me that operating the cables as push pull would produce slop and differences in throttle position of the carbs relative to each other, unless the neutralizer spring affected the mixing mechanisim as opposed to 1 neutralizing spring per carb. Maybe thats the way it works. I don't know. It's all new to me.

If my 582 went to full throttle, my KF-3 would still be in my garage instead of the parts bin!

So if the reason is safety, that is that Rotax feels a full throttle failure is safer that an idle failure, why does the 582 have idle return springs instead of full throttle springs?

If you look at the picture that I posted of the cabane failure you can see that the cross tube failed and deflected downward.  I think the simple added tube may have stopped the fuselage damage but without actual testing there is not a way to tell.  One thing for sure the cabane, which is a truss, would be stronger.  I am sure that infilling the seat truss would have been more important is limiting the damage to my fuselage and that is in the works.

I have added the neutralizer spring to mine and would be interested in why you think that this is a bad idea.  My setup allows the carb springs to still maintain slight pull.  By the way AV8r3400 I didn't catch your first name.

I don't think that the engine would run good with 2 cylinders on one side doing the work.  My thought is to do what several others have done and buy the pricey split cable that ACS sells.  Others might sell this as well.

I have the Jabiru 3300 on my Q-2 and the spring was removed so it works as a push/pull setup.  The throttle throw is very short and the movement of the throttle is short also, about an inch or so.  This could be increased but haven't seen a need to do so.  It now has over 600 hours and works great.  It has the standard friction aircraft cable.

Dang, I talked myself into ordering one today.

Doug I don't know why the Rotax and Jabiru are setup that way.  At least with the Jabiru it is a single carb so it won't shake the engine off the front of the airplane.  I wonder if Bing may require it or maybe the lawyers had a hand in it as was mentioned already.
