Any updates or second thoughts on the Luga/Kool- or-whatever-they-are-called-today props before I place my order?
It looks like I will be going for a Scimitar SL107-1820 3 blade (with the actual diameter of 1840...).
620 euro including shipping and hub... I think I will be able to reuse my current spinner that I have for my Warp Drive...
    Go, no-go?

  7. FredStork added a post in a topic Kitfox SS tailwheel selection

I changed from the stone hard Maule tailwheel to a Matco 6" pneumatic tailwheel. I was limited to 6" as I reused the Maule fork (I appear to be one of the few actually liking the Maule mechanism - maybe I'm just lucky...). If I had to change today I think I would go with the wide 8" kit http://www.matcomfg.com/TAILWHEEL8PNEUWIDE-idv-3690-13.html
But whatever you do, go for pneumatic !

I will be in Sevilla May 1st-15th but unfortunately I'll not have a car, otherwise it would have been nice to come and see your plane. You have it in a very beautiful area. Maybe next time I come to Sevilla...

Hi Steven, welcome to the group!
Interesting, I have never heard about Flymaster TSA 10 before. Do you have more information? When was it built, do Flymaster still exist... Find photos but nothing else on ghe web.
    Wher are you based?
    regards

  10. FredStork added a post in a topic Triangle Side Windows

This is what I found in my rebuild photo folder... there is nothing really complicated with the triangle window. In mine it was a fiber glass frame that you cover and fold the tissue/oratex around... On the right sided window, upper left corner (ok, triangle, upper corner...) you see the the corner of the uncovered fiber glass frame. You can make the frame in any thin material that is easy to cover.
    Hope it helps...

    Have fun in the snow!
How do you have it floating in the air like that in your workshop, black magic? Looks very convenient when changing from wheels to skis...
I'm soon about to take off my skis, the snow is melting fast here in France

New video We have had a long period of dreadful weather here in France. Last week we finally had a beautiful winter day and I was confronted with the usual winter dilemma, should I ski or fly? Well, I think I found the solution...

  16. FredStork added a post in a topic Oratex 6000 on a PA12

Your levitating tail makes me think about something I have forgotten to mention from my Oratex experience. I used Oratex 600 and it is much, much lighter than the traditional stuff I had on before. The weight difference on the wings has no real influence on CG for obvious reasons but eveything behind the wings do... And it is a lot... The avid flyer tend to be nose heavy even for us with 2 strokes and I ended up putting some dead weights in the tail when I'm not fully loaded with camping stuff. A good time to go for that double tail spring and a new heavy tail wheel (not that it can get much heavier than the traditional hard Maule...)

Any further feedback to share? I know this is not the period we fly the most, nor is it the best time to judge aerodynamic performance as anything will perform better in the cold air...but still, we are very keen to learn more about this prop...

Yes, but those are nose wheel aircraft, they are already looking at the ground...

    Free the red plane!
That is not fair... you cannot do this to an old plane... Save it from years of imprisonment like that, take it to a airplane hangar and restore it - just to put it to eternal sleep again... You have created hope for this plane and you will now creating an irreparable deception... One day, when no one is around and the hangar door is left open, this plane will escape, take off and go play in the sky -  where it belong!

  21. FredStork added a post in a topic Avid Wing Tanks

I have never seen the original aluminum tanks (that cracked...). The traditional fiberglass tanks are a structural part of the wing. I the aluminum tanks were conceived the same way the flex of the wing could/would crack them.
But if the tanks are "free floating" within the wing there would be no stress an they would remain intact - but we would loose the structural function of the tank. With no tank installed in the wing there is a diagonal tube in place.
The only real issue with the original fiberglass tanks is if they are not compatible with ethanol. So if a ethanol resistant resin is used I don't really see the issue with the traditional tanks.
The issue with having multiple connected tanks in the same wing isn't so much the fuel flow out as fuel in... unless the connection can manage the flow correctly.

  23. FredStork added a post in a topic Have a Matco TW and not happy how it releases?

Sorry, very happy with the standard Matco mechanism - releases only when I want and expect it to. Less happy with the solid wheel but replaced it with ome with pneumatic tire as detailed on another string, works great.

  24. FredStork added a post in a topic VHF Antenna

Please excuse a probably stupid question - but I just dont know...
Is there any relation between reception and transmission? Meaning, if I my reception is good does that automatically mean that my transmission capability is good as well - through the same antenna? Obvious caveat for poor mic etc...
