Thr Lake Amphibian has an engine driven pump with an elect boost backup.
Procedure there was to keep your finger on the elect pump switch when you turned it off... keep an eye on fuel pressure guage.... and be ready to flip it back on if you noticed any pressure drop or motor stumble.
Engine way up high on that plane, tank down low.  Got a guy into good fuel pressure monitoring habits.  The elect pump was the first thing you went for if the motor hiccuped.

You know your stuff Fred, and I'm sure you've already run your tip speed calculations for a longer prop. But if not here's where I did mine. Make sure you use the coldest temperature that you might be flying in.

I came to the exact same conclusions as you did Fred:  Stol plane = go as long as you can turn/clear.  Scimitar = little less static thrust but better cruise and smoother running.  Also does better if the tips go trans-sonic.

The air trikes resell is a few more bucks, but it might be worth it for an easier deal.
870 was for the 3 blade prop and one hub  only.   Extra 2 blade hub was 260 more.  Spinner was like 300.  So you can see you dont really save all that much.
I see greg mills advertising now as a luga reseller and I encouraged steve henry to do the same... especially since he paid big up front for the one off 79" prop which we all benefit from.  IMO he should have exclusive sell right to that prop in N America.
A few dealers would get those props more exposure, availability, and help settle things to a fair price.  I think it is a good thing.
I'd have rather bought from Steve but he told me to go direct because he's such a nice guy and because he hadn't worked a deal out with Roman yet.
But the nice guy shouldn't be finishing last IMO!

Hey Marshawk if you get a min to do a thrust pull with that warp that would tell alot.
I'll so the same with the Luga but it'll be later spring before I'm at that stage.  Those numbers will tell better than anything how well our intake and exhaust tuning are "getting along with each other".
My hope is to be in the ball park with Steve Henry's numbers since I'll have the same prop as he.  Of course he is far and away a better tuner than I am so I have no illusions of pulling 585lbs or anything!

    Good plan Flywise!

Were you trying  IFA hubs or ground adjustable?

Yeah, blindly sending money overseas has some risk!
Luckily steve and copro have good feedback in dealing with Luga.
By the way,  Air Trikes rebrands the Luga under "Kool", and some refer to the luga as an "NR prop", presumably the initails of the invetor (Nick Roman)
    So:
LUGA = KOOL = NR Prop

Yeah, I haven't heard of anyone who has run the ifa version.  Looking for reviews.
The Kool rebrand through airtikes is a bit more $ than if you order direct from ukraine.
Price from Luga direct (Ukraine ) for a 72" 3 blade scimitar  L 107 with a groumd adj. hub was about $640 (shipped) last time I inquired.
I am told the weight of that prop with metal le protection and the hub is under 8 lbs!

Updated some info on Luga / Kool.
Also learned that Air Trikes offers an IFA hub for some prop models.  Anyone have experience with the IFA Kool / Luga?

    The header tank?
    Here's my guesses:
Low point in the system with a vent return which is most positive way to keep air out of the system.
With just a T fitting, In a steep turn or slip you might have fuel flowing really fast through the T from one wing to another.... and the fuel flow down to the engine might be reduced or even reversed (venturi effect).   Kind of like those fertilizer/weed killer bottles work where the garden hose flow draws up the solution.
Also it acts as a bit of a pressure reservoir with some volume to keep the engine feed constant.
Now someone smarter than me can give you the REAL reason!  (Inverted flight)

    Yep.  Mine are 132.5
    I'll probably need richer.
135 is what teal runs at near sea level with the snowmo box.  Anyone that runs a custom box needs bigger jets (all the way up to the 180s steve runs)
I'm planning that AFR guage to fine tune.  Also remember that a small change in float level will have a big effect, so if things are not making sense, check that.

Oh and jared, I talked to steve this morning amd he said he is too swamped with stuff right now to consider making us airboxes.
So I guess we are down to the snowmo airbox or a DIY approximation of what he makes.

Yeah, it is not optimum (too short and too much mmoi), but it'll work great as a spare.
Just like Jared, I'm planning on going to the 79" Luga.  Cheap and light = great, but the results steve henry posted (static pulls in the mid to upper 500lb range at realistic flight pitches, and a 600lb pull at a high static rpm test) was what got me sold on it.

Sorry for the mixup Ed im MO!   My apologies!  The "other" Ed im question here is "Yooper Ed"... in the UP of MI.

And yes!  Your plane would be a great candidate for anyone shopping!  You know that I'd be on a flight down there if I were shopping!

Good luck in your search for a plane Mike!
As far as the Yamaha, there are a few conversions popping up, but still a very rare motor in the air.
But I am working with an AFF member here who is at the moment pulling his Subaru and putting an rx1 motor in a KF4 up in the UP of MI.
He is not much of a social media / forum guy, but that helps him focus on getting szzit done!  I'm betting he'll have that plane done here in February sometime.  If you become more serious about a yamaha conversion, Ed's plane might be a good chance for you to look over to see how that is working for him.
You joined up on the Yam FB group yet?  My alais name over there is Anatoli.

Wish the bubble doors you are thinking about would fit my KF!  I'd sure be interested.  The KF factory kit price is fine for guys with deep pockets building a new S7... but a little out of my aviation budget!
Vance, Dumb question:  If I were to do flat lexan door replacement, could I put 3m tape on the frame then slap an uncut sheet on it, stick it down, drill and screw it down, then trim the lexan to the frame?  Roto-Zip it or something?
Kinda a quick and simple "for dummies" job that a guy with my talents could appreciate!  LOL
