Setting it back farther might save some cowl rework time too?

Yamaha with c box is left turning, like a 582 c box.
    So opposite of 912.
So jared i think a little left is correct.
Avid experts, the question remains on up/down tilt.
    Go perpendiculal to firewall?
    (That was my KF5 answer)

  6. Yamma-Fox added a post in a topic New Sub-forum for gear options?

One really cool thing about the AFF forum engine (which btw is the best I've ever seen of all the forums I'm on) is that when a moderator moves a topic (like reorganizing into a new sub-forum), the original topic title remains as a link in the place it was moved from.
This really helps to keep members from saying  "now where the hell did that post that was right here go!"

    New Sub-forum for gear options?
Wow, there is alot of posts and discussion on HD gear / bush gear/ wide gear/ big tire  options!
Wonder if it is worth a new sub forum?
Move all previous topics in there.
Great way to have a one stop place for people to find info.
(No skin here...  I'm a float guy!  Just an idea.)

    Exactly jim.
The avid guys are the ones to listen to on this.  Jared i would post a new topic with the question of engine angle on the avid model you have.
The way I did it on my kf is how the subaru was set up as a factory fwf kit.  You would want to come up with a way to convert that to how avid does it

my kf5 firewall is parallel to the fuse.
I went 4 deg left and zero up/down (level using cyl head top)
But I wont tell you how great it is until I fly it!  Lol!

  11. Yamma-Fox added a post in a topic If you were going to spend 140K on a bushplane.....

Yeah but therein lies my problem...
    No money AND no brains.

But I do have a really hot wife, great kids, and a hangar queen (with a half installed snowmobile motor) in my garage stall.
So I'm pretty happy with things!

I think the BH uses a c172 windshield, I think it was based more on the 170.  I had a maule.  Good plane, but I'd say the bearhawk is better in every respect.  More like the capability of the 180/5
If I needed a big hauler, the BH would be it!

And it never ceases to amaze me how much money so many people have to spend on toys and and houses and stuff!
Where do they GET that kind of money? !

    Oh yeah.....  financing...
Guess that's what I'm doing wrong.. old school "cash on the barrel" guy.
Zero debt..  zero show off house and toys LOL!

Along with c5engineer, I think that some others here (akflyer and jared payne are two that come to mind) are onto some good options that are in the works.
Sam, run a few searches here for "bush gear" and "what was i smoking" to get some ideas of what guys are trying.

  16. Yamma-Fox added a post in a topic flight testing avid mkiv help wanted

Congratulations on the airplane completion and first flight!
Lotta guys here with knowledge on the plane and motor... they'll help you get her performing well.
Gonna need the egt set up correctly (for tuning and monitoring temp limit). And that sounds like a fairly big prop for a 582, so the pitch change was a step in the right direction.  But if your static rpm was higher than in flight it sounds like the motor needs some dialing in for sure.
Were you flying it at 1100lbs?  Sounds kinda heavy for first flights.

  18. Yamma-Fox added a post in a topic 582 hot start problem

Hot engine start trouble is a classic low compression symptom.  Ive seen it on a few 2 strokes.
I hope that is not the problem, but it's easy to rule out by doing a hot engine compression check.  Most all compression guages are suspect IMO, so use the same guage on a different hot engine that is a known good runner and compare values.

Copro's airbox (and most everything fwf) is fabricated by Steve Henry of Wild West Aircraft.  He sells the airbox and expansion tank for yamaha.  Also engine mount and headers specifically to fit highlander / superstol.
For me I used .75x.058 tube (some .049)for my mount (approx 16ft, no lengths greater that 2ft).  The side rails are 1.5"
As far as the airbox, I plan to try the Yam snowmo box.  If I have tuning trouble I'll scrap that plan and buy Steves.

  22. Yamma-Fox added a post in a topic 582 hot start problem

Yep, and hopefully not the case, but as ya'll know, that is a typical low compression symptom as well.
Another rare one that I have had is a vacuum leak.  In my case a rip in the carb boot to motor.
