Yeah I love the rk on my rx1 kf5 floatplane!
Great for the cold winter starts / warmups too!
In talking to Teal he is planning a full end housing adapter plate for the Phazer to fit a c/e box in the up or down position.  It is on the "to-do" list of his.
And as far as the shoulder,  338 I can see your fab abilities here and am jealous!   I'm sure you don't need my 100 level input but will throw out the idea of an exterior locating profile (since there's not room on the interior with the clutch drum so close)

Whoops I see there in post #2 your dowels and the gearbox cut.  Missed that first read through.
Bet that will lock it in place just fine.
Looking forward to watching this Yamaha build!

Way to go!  Yeah we have about 4 people now taking on custom cbox plates for the Phazer.  Most are waiting for the Skytrax gearbox which is available for pre-order, but some prefer the cbox and rk400 for good reasons.
And yep alignment is critical.  Looks like you are on top of that issue.   As a rule If your rk is making dust then you are off a bit too much.
Everyone who has done a plate has had to do a little adjusting to get it aligned just right, then normally a gearbox indexing shoulder on the plate is necessary because the "wiggle" tolerance of the mounting bolts on the flat plate is too sloppy.   Gotta lock the gearbox in place on the plate.

I have heard of people having landings like that...  but in my 13,000 hours have not yet experienced it...  and still believe it to be a myth.

    Sounds like fun!
I've been tied up at work but my plane has been sitting out on the ice, it tied up too with its frozen-in "dead man"  under ice anchors and wing covers.  I'm just waiting for a day off with good weather then hopefully we can meet up Jim.

R-1 AIRBOX OPTION for APEX / RX-1 CONVERSIONS
I ended up going with an 04-06 R1 motorcycle airbox.  It is a nice small box that is available for about $35.  (I need to credit "Yooper Ed" for finding and proving out this airbox... Thanks Ed!)
The small problem with this airbox is that the 4 holes are spaced a little narrow, so I came up with a plan:
I'm gonna use the snowmo airbox carb boots and sleeve 2" pvc into them and then into r1 airbox.  I'll need to use 2" CTS (copper tube size) PVC which has an OD of 2.1", which should be a nice snug fit in the carb boots.  Standard 2" PVC has an OD of 2.37 and will not fit.
A little spin and flex of the carb boots should get the pvc lined up to slip in the airbox.
Below are some pics and videos of my R1 airbox. (The second pic shows a comparison between the snowmo box (in front) and the R1 box I used.
UPDATE ON FINAL JETTING FOR THE R1 AIRBOX:
Main jets drilled out with a 2.10mm drill bit
Needles set leaner, clip position 2 (2nd slot from top)
    Pilot screws 1.0 tuns out
Plugs are upgraded to NGK CR10EK

    Rudder Pedal Bracing
Had a friend cut a few weld in type braces and I have a few extra to share if anyone wants to go that route.
I am planning to sandwich 2 braces over each pedal  when I get to it.  The pic below is just a single brace repair.

Looks awesome!   I'm sure you know to be careful if that snow gets crusty.
I think I pushed the limit a time or two on wheels, but got lucky and didn't have this day:

    Not a New Moderator
My nameplate might show "Moderator" here for a bit but I am DEFINITELY NOT a new moderator for AFF.
Leni and I were just looking at possibly adding a Sub-forum for Yamaha Conversions, and for me to help test that out he "knighted" me  temporarily.
You might see that Yamaha Sub-forum structure on the bottom of the AFF home page.  I'm not sure if it will take off or not but feel free to comment here on your thoughts about it.

  13. Yamma-Fox added a post in a topic How to adjust a nose high cruise

Unless that kills your speed I guess I would rig it with more flaps at the zero point... then move the stab or or use a trim tab on the elevator to trim any stick force out.
That's why I had to do with my model 2 when I had it but listen to these other guys here too because I know them and they are definitely smarter than me!
There sure may be a better way than mine to get it set up.

I'm really not sure itd help much.  Maybe experiment with some temporary tail ballast and see
Do you get some nose down when you move the flaperons?

Seems like the only options here are to change the center of lift (adjust flaperons) or fly faster.. right?
But if you move the stab nose down (without changing the CG aft) and fly the same speed you will lower the nose but just be descending.  Seems to me you'd do a lotta work only to end up out of trim to stay level... with the same deck angle.

Oh yeah I did!  But I apparently needed to vote as many times (or more) than in the title of this post in order to help overturn the "cityiots" in Minneapolis..
I guess that (multiple and ghost votes) is allowed now, right?

Thanks for the reminder.  I keep inspecting my welds but that probably isn't enough.
    Better just do the gussets.

My RX-1 tucks nicely between the footwell cutouts.  I made my own mount though and got it to fit in that slot.
But I don't know for sure if the mounts advertised in this post are built that way.  Guess you'd have to call and see on that.

Hopefully Teal will come in and let us know what the engineering calcs show for power capacity, but I do know that there are a couple guys with turbos that are hoping to prove it's real world capability through some rigorous ground testing with boosted power.
UPDATE 9/2020:  The gearbox has proven itself well on the Edge Performance EPeX, running up to 350 HP.

Teal designed a one way sprag clutch into the new gearbox, but not a centrifugal clutch.  The sprag is there to help with smoother start up with  bigger props.

I think I would keep that bigger rudder and just change the throw on it so it travels less.

Left.   I went about 4 degrees on my Yamaha RX1 and am glad I did.  But it is swinging an 80" prop so maybe a person would go more like 2 or 3 degrees with a smaller prop?
