Welcome back Jim. The northwest corner of the airport has a long history of grass and ski operations offset from each of the paved runways. Looking good for me to fly in on skis this year again.

Third year for McGregor. First time I saw that video above too, I'm doing a "high speed" pass in the trike on skis at 26:00. Can tell it's high speed because the skis are normally at very happy angles but go into aerodynamic braking mode at high speed. Also, if you listen closely you can hear the auxiliary jet engine whine. Iirc it took me three hours to get there, think I was the last or next to last, 105th to show up. They had just finished giving away door prizes.

The Avid is parked for the winter but I have the skis mounted up on the trike. I was hoping to make it to the Jackson ski plane flyin at McGregor last Saturday but I don't care to do subzero temps in the open air anymore. Hoping to get out on them tomorrow for the first time this winter.

I was in forty knot wind shear a couple times with the Mk IV last summer and was surprised how good it was - and my wings each have an extra foot of length.

Official NWS station in Cotton is two miles east of my house, -56F yesterday for the lowest in the lower 48 states.

I think it will still be a lot of work for Mark to get his plane to snow with skis on.  ; >)

No Jenki, not a split lock washer, these are belleville washers. Nested stack increases the pressure available, inverted stack increases the range of operation. Nested and inverted increase both. They are not designed to be tightened down flat. Do an internet search on them.

P.S. I missed that others had already answered... had an image added too but it didn't make it.

Yes, the jaw gap is obvious, and look at the decimal point location in all three measuring images. 0.069" - sixty nine thousandths.

In the first post you state .006 - .007" deep but your picture indicates .069" - that's a major difference and a number of responses are not valid if that is indeed the case. Hard to tell from the pics on my computer.

I understand the reason is due to the rake(?) angle. More material and more complicated bending necessary to make it. Looking at it closely, as in thinking how one would go about fabricating it, I can see that.

I've heard of a number of folks running 8.00-6 tubes in the 8.50-6s, apparently no troubles.

    Welcome to the group!
If you're talking tail dragger, take a closer look at the configurations of the Kitfox 5 gear vs. Avid Mark IV. You'll see that the KF gear uses the extra mounts more forward located, coming straight down. Avid gear is angled forward to get the wheels far enough ahead. Some fuselage mods might be necessary to use the KF gear if that's the case, although here's a pic that appears someone using KF mounted a bit further forward than Avid style mounts ( I don't know what kind of plane it's on). Added 2nd pic that I recall may have been a cub variant, but similar idea.
I'll make another post with some more mount ideas. I'm faced with making mounts for my 2nd hand MkIV Avid gear as well.

Jim, I have a Powerfin on my trike which I've been very happy with. Assuming they are F blades, I believe you would be very pleased with it on a 912 Kitfox.

    John,
When occasions arise that the battery has drained a bit, how many amperes is it initially charging at and how long before it is under 10 amperes? I'm concerned about earlier Jabiru charging limitations. Which model EarthX are you running? Guessing your Jab has the newer charging system.

How flexible are you (able to bend over, lift legs up, etc. comfortably) and what size feet? The answers to these questions are significant. There are some folks bigger than you that are fine and some smaller that are not.
