The airworthiness cert was lost on this airplane by previous owner. I have been working with the local FSDO and they have finally issued me a special airworthiness after providing lots of documentation. But they are having me do Phase 1 testing. This airframe already has nearly 400 hours on it. Is this normal for the FAA to have one go through all the testing again? I am limited to a certain airfield and have to log 40 hours. I have a virtual meeting with them next week to discuss all of this.

Do you still have a kitfox 4 rib?

Both are the same. They actually only go in about 6 inches. I was thinking it went all the way through, but I found that it’s short.

It appears there is a tube inside the other spar tube. Is this normal or has it been strengthened?

Do I have an Avid Flyer C, HH, or Stol?
I bought an Avid Flyer and am pretty stoked about getting her in the air. I am currently working on getting the Registration and Airworthiness.
Looking through paperwork, there are many different claims of what model it is exactly and what the Gross weight is. The data placard on the side of airplane says, Avid Stol, serial 700, 1993, GW 911. The previous owner claims it is the Heavy Hauler. I measured the wing ribs and they are spaced 18". I thought the HH were spaced 12". It has the square rudder on the top. Has the "bat wings" where there is no straight leading edge. I thought that was part of the HH wing as well. Tube dimension is close to 2 1/2". It came with a Mark IV builders manual, but I'm pretty sure its a model C. On some of the forms I find GW to be 1150. It has 14 gallon tanks.
The wing has no inspection holes and no grommets for releasing moisture. That makes me worried about the wood ribs that attach to the flaperons.
Based on what I have written, do you believe I have the HH wings? Thanks

When an aircraft is not registered for a certain amount of time, the N number will eventually be deregistered and be up for grabs for someone else. The N number would have to be reserved and then reassigned to that specific aircraft. Once that is complete, a copy of the airworthiness should be available from the FAA. For $10 you can receive a CD for all records of the aircraft. I would imagine it having a copy of the airworthiness, but I'm not sure on that.
Worse case scenario would be having a DAR-T inspect the airplane and reissuing an airworthiness.
