    new forum software
Some time in the next few days I will be upgrading the forum software.  I am promised that we wont loose any posts, data, or attachments.  I am also told that all member names, avatars etc. will cut over as well and all account settings should remain the same.  If there are any issues with the members names pic etc. just let me know and I will do the best I can to straighten it out!

  2. akflyer added a post in a topic My new 1450 Full lotus floats

That is my 9' zodiac rolled up on the float for chasing dead ducks.. I land in the river then taxi up the mud bank and stop on the grass so I dont get too muddy

I am a contributing member on several snowmobile sites also so I know how the donation thing works, I was just trying to stay away from pissing people off.  I will check into the Invision software tomorrow and see if they can do a seamless transition with no loss of pictures or data.  The invision software gives all the options we could ever want and has alot more powerful control panel.

it seems that if I try to add more than one pic, it times out and gives the white screen of death.. I can go in and view my individual posts, but it wont display them... This software is really starting to piss me off as there are way to many functions I cant do that I would like to.  Looks like the site is gonna start costing me money to upgrade to better software that I can fully customize!

Awsome contrasting colors... our birch trees tend to go from green to yellow or orange in a day or two, but I have not seen any of the reds that your pics show.  I could get lost in that scenery and end up flying into the trees   That was why my dad quit flying just before I was born...  he got all engrossed watching a flock of geese and was circling lower and lower till he drug the wingtip into a tree.. he leveled off, flew home and never took the controls again.

Dont know about the snow fall..... We normaly get 4-6' of snow on the ground here on the flat land, and the mountains I ride got over 4' of snow fall overnight many times last year.  There were several times last year that even the bad ass mountain sleds could not make it up even a little 150-200' climb without whacking the hill 4 or 5 times to get in a trail over the top to really get into the good mountain riding.

If I can ever get my computer issue figured out I will post up some pics from the mountains the last few years!  We still get our -50 days and the inlet comes close to freezing up at times, with enough ice in it to really hamper the super tankers etc that try to come in and load out the oil and natural gas.

  8. akflyer added a post in a topic It's a girl!!

holy cow she is precious!  Congrats to you and the wife!

We had 2 boys first, but when my little girl came along, it was like the first kid all over again... little shit is 17 now but still knows how to play the daddies little girl card...

One of my daughters best friends was in a car accident.  She and the baby lived through it but the father was killed 2 months ago (just about 2 months before the baby was born).  She had a little girl about 4 days ago and we are the "adopted" grandparents.  The wife has been busy spending my money spoiling the heck out that little girl allready!

Post up all the picks you want of her!  I am a sucker for babies

I am hoping to get out and fly one more time today on floats as I will be gone at work for 6 weeks and the water should be pretty stiff when I get back.  The leaves here are allmost gone and the 45 knt wind storms we had most of last week stripped most of them.  We dont have any snow in the forecast though... WHT is up with you guys geting snow before us

sweet!  new bird looks good!  you still working on the original one you had or has it taken a back seat now that you have one flying?

I was working very dilignetly on rebuilding my plane till my brother showed up from OK with his KF II in tow... as soon as he showed up, my plane went into moth balls for a year and a half even though I only had about a weeks work left on it to get it back in the air.  I was too busy flying the crap out of his to bother working on mine anymore   I think I put about 180 hrs on his in the first summer it was here when I put my floats on his plane!

not really, I have done both and they are about the same except where the hooks for the bungees are.

you'll get better and quicker as time goes by.  I run a ratchet strap between the two wheels to keep the gear sucked up, then do the bungees.  I can do a swap in about 10 minutes with the help of a buddy

  13. akflyer added a post in a topic First shot of my bird in the air

the onlything that I worry about as far as AGL is concerned is the terain.  If i have a place to set down with reasonable certainty that I can atleast limp away from the scene of the wreck I am flying on the deck.... down low and dirty is where the fun is at!

looks like you were smart enough to put the N numbers on the vert. stab.  Makes it hard for the guys on the ground to get your number and call you in when you are low and slow

I am using it for a pattern.  My fuse was modified with an additional stringer down the center of the fuse so the stock one will not fit.  I will bring yours back up to you next time I have to make an anchorage run!

Once you really get a grip on what you can do in your bird, just about any other plane seems boring to me... These little birds really do put the fun back into flying.

Sweet!  those 40 hrs will go by pretty fast at this rate!  I have been playing for the last 2 weeks and have not done one darn thing to get the yard ready for winter so I have to buckle down today and get some projects knocked out... however, with the sun rising and not a cloud in the sky, I may have to play hookey from the chores one more day and go burn some air!

  19. akflyer added a post in a topic installation manual for F210

I dont know about cutting the transducer wires.. I would not but that is just me.

I used a 3/8" barbed fitting from the header tank to the transducer, then stepped it down with a 3/8" X 1/4" fitting after the transducer on mine.

  20. akflyer added a post in a topic Do your tanks burn evenly?

For what ever reason mine does the same.  I normaly burn about half the left tank then switch to the right tank and burn it almost empty then back to the left.  I put a valve on each wing tank after I noticed the transfer.  It was bad enough that the left tank would overflow the right tank in flight and I would have gas spraying off the right wing filler cap inflight.

Sweet pics!  I do that with several of my RC amphibs... lotsa fun seeing how far you can dip a wing tip and how tight you can spin it around and keep control... What can I say, I get bored sometimes.

I doubt it.  I made mine 1" longer and it was not enough.  TRy loosening up the chains a link and see if you can get it to break over then.  That is what I ended up doing.

    Avid Catalina
Well yesterday I went up to Anchorage and picked up an Avid Catalina for akflyerbob.  Man what a cute little bird this is!  The build manual also confirmed what I was thinking about doing with wing extensions!  They just spliced into an existing avid wing and added 3 more bays!  Me thinks I know what my next project will be.  Building longer wings for my Model "C"!  will get some pics of Bobs new toy up after I get it unloaded this afternoon.
