Take a look back at my recent "Heater" thread.  I followed the advice of not needing the valve and it is working great.  No noticeable heat when the fan is not running.  The 1 X 5/8" tees are not easy to find but Universal Parts Inc does carry the y's and other things that I used.  Copper tees 3/4 X 1/2" will work but I choose not to use them for a couple of reasons: another type of metal introduced into the system and the short clamping area not to mention added weight   http://www.universalpartsinc.com

Hey Ed I'm hoping that the setup I have is going to do the job with my 912. I don't know where I could put something that big.

When I was using DC headsets I sent them to the factory and they always repaired them no charge including replacing  mics.

    KF 1 for sale
A local fellow has a Kitfox one with a 532 Rotax for sale with a very nice trailer for sale.  This has been modified for some one with a 33-34 inseem.  The plane is still in phase one and needs the hour flown off.  This fellow is one that had a mentor that passed a few years ago and is not interested in getting a license and has physical issue not too.  This will make someone a nice plane and will be flight with a few hours work.  Asking $10k with the trailer.  Drop me a IM if interested and I will provide contact info.

I fly with the pilots side door open up to 120 mph and open the door at any speed.  As mentioned have a firm hold of the door, once it is open it stays put.

    Fairing Gear legs
Been scratching my head to come up  with a way to fair the gear leg on my cabane style gear and came up with a solution that will match the struts without shaping trim to match what came with the kit.  Not perfect but a reasonable facsimile is in the works by gluing a 1/4" x 2" pine trim to the back edge of the rear leg and then covering the both legs with fabric like the original setup with the factory gear.  They will have the 1/4" blunt trailing edge for better pressure recovery and less drag.  on the cabane member I used 3/4" cove molding glued and faired into the tubing to make the tube teardrop shaped.  Still using the 3M structural adhesive that came with the kit when it was shipped almost 25 years ago and it is still good and working well.  I did not use it when I built the wing but it works well for non critical applications.

Sorry to hear that, I just took the measurements and re arched mine also added 4 layers of carbon fiber composite to the bottom.  You have probably seen the posts about Wausau Spring being a good place to get a replacement.  I suspect the the original was nothing more than cold rolled steel.

The heater works great, well almost.  Gobs of heat to be sure but... Taxied out this morning and when I called Ground no reply, Tower nothing.  Back at the hanger took the cowl off thinking some wire was causing the problem.  Antenna connection was good.  Tried the radio again and yep it's working flipped the heater switch on and everything is ok but when I turned the heater off the radio stopped.  So I deduced that there must be a large back EMF when the fan shutdown.  When I cycled the master the radio was working again.  It is fixed now with a diode across the fan leads  to sink the back emf back thru the motor.  Once again small change with a big consequence. the radio is a MGL V6 so this may not be a problem with other radios but I suspect that it would.
The diode which I had in my electronics parts is a 1N4001 about a 30 cent fix.

Well the heater is installed but I haven't tried it as o yet.  I did end up going with a larger fan (305 cfm) and some y's that were found at Universal Products Inc.

I use raw fiberglass tape about 3-4" square should do it.  The stuff that I had was a little thicker, about an 1/8" and held in place with high temp RTV.  If you have some exhaust rap that will work or ACS sells a 2" wide tape for less than e buck per foot.  It's the resin that burns. Aluminum  Roof flashing works good if you want a shield with a gap between it and the cowl or on top of the fiberglass.  I do have some Kevlar cloth I could send you a small square but the edges would be rough that is why I use the fiberglass tape.  Message me with a mailing address if you want the Kevlar also I have some flashing I could cut you a square of that also.

I have the shroud style heat on my Jabiru that works pretty good with just a small 5" shroud on one of the exhaust pipes   The air is piped over the cooling fins of the pan from the outside and then goes to the shroud or is dumped outside when not used.  I had hope to get some oil cooling but it really did not help with that on the 3300.  Now on the Avid it has been a different story.  I have a nice shroud that came with the kit that fits over most of the muffler and a scoop that also came with the kit that was designed to collect warm air from behind the radiator but that did not work for me.  Next I built a scoop that used one of the inlets on the cowl to collect the air and even added a shroud on one of the pipes to heat the air even more before it went to the muffler shroud and still no heat that I could feel.  At that point I just gave up on that system, I am sure that there must be a way to make it work but just got tired of fooling with it. A friend of mine bought Larry's plane and with the heater core style, that plane at least has some heat.  Maybe Larry will comment on how well it works in the winter.
i don't think that it has any valves in the heater lines so I am planning try it without the valves to start with and see how it goes. I will up date this post when I have some more data.

    Heater
I am installing a hot water cabin heater in the Avid.  The heater core that I found is from NAPA 660-3001 aluminum and weighs about a pound . the fan is a 140mm computer fan.  I built a fiberglass shroud for the heater core that the fan will mount to and an aluminum frame to hold it all under the panel.  Looks like I will have about $60.00 USD in it by the time I buy the hoses and tees.

    Radiator cap 912
Found a replacement radiator cap for the 912 that is for a BMW motorcycle.  Part #17112345074.  This is the 1.2 BAR that is now recommended by Rotax.  The price is $38.78 plus shipping, still not cheap but about 1/2 of what Rotax wants.  You can order it from your closest BMW Motorcycle dealer.
I have one installed on my engine.

The springs are the ones that connect the rudder to the tail wheel.  I do not have different springs on mine.  Still shimmies occasionally but seldom.
