it's a great playground for sure.  We are planning an Alaska trip maybe in 2017. The Alaskan playground that you guys have in your backyard is soooo much larger with so much to offer.

    Johnson Cr
We are planning a trip to Johnson Creek for the week of the 4th of July.  I am thinking about flying there Satuarday the 1st or maybe the day before.  No special plans just camping, flying and the likes.  Anyone interested is welcome, we should have a good little mix of planes. So far no big fly-ins are on the books for that time frame so it should not be to crowded.

I used some on the straight and around the curve of the HS and I really did not like the way it came out.  It was sloppy looking and would not do it again.  You're experience may very.

We received around 14" of snow over night here in central Wyoming and it is still coming down.  Wisconsin is going to get its share out of this one too I think.

Believe it or not I have not taken any pictures but I can give you a preliminary report.  The Avid went from 95 MPH to 110 MPH at 5500 RPM and the rate of climb  went from about 600 to 1200 FPM At 75 MPH.  The shocking part was at 55 I saw 1700 FPM at 8000' DA and then realized someone had flown into a cloud.  I will have to revisit that one.  The prop still needs some tweaking to get up to the recommended 5500 RPM for climb out.  Put 2.5 hours on the Hobbs today. There should be some better numbers after a few flights but it doesn't look good for tomorrow. Wow if I said at this point that I was pleased it would be a major understatement.  Hal and Jay have been very helpful and always available to answer questions.  More to come....

We only got about 2" out of that storm and 1 1/2" out of this one.  Maybe this one will give you a break and move to the south of you.  Did you get your ignition issues resolved?  I noticed that they supplied yellow pushrod tube o-rings, mine were red silicone very rubbery.  Are the yellow ones silicone also?

New prop is out for delivery today and a winter storm moving in tonight but when it does happen I am sure that I will be amazed.  Thanks for posting Jeremy's comments, that helped push me over the edge.

There is a lot to be said about buying and going flying.  The best part is that you can buy one of these little birds for way less than you can build one.  For myself and many others on here, I suspect, building is as much fun as the flying and it's like having two jobs but you pay to work at the second one and happy to do it.  Gave up most of my addictions except airplanes and I'm still working on the coffee.
Hope you get healed up soon, that being laid up crap is not for sissies that's for sure.

The Zipper is installed.  Install was as advertised, about six hours total time.  The new SS exhausts will be welded up tomorrow and back together Sunday.  New prop will be in on Tuesday so it should be able to get it back in the air next week some time.  Stay tuned for the flight report.  My Ivo Ultralight Ga for the 912 will be for sale if anyone needs one.  Also good stock pistons and cylinders for 80 HP 912 will be available soon.

If I recall correctly, on my Avid the u joint is turned 90 degrees so the slot that the rod end bolts into faces front and rear and the bolt is vertical and I believe the u- joint is loose so that it will rotate if it needs to. So rotate the rod end 90 degrees and retighten and make sure there is play in the u-joint so that it will function correctly.  At least that is the way I remember it.

    Zipper Kit
Just started ordering the Zipper for my Avid.  Sold the wife on it as a safety improvement for getting off of my airstrip, feel free to use that with your wife or husband.

The FAR that applies is 91.215 b.4.   The ref that applies in the AIM is 4-1-19  f. 2(a) and 2(c).  Hope this helps.

The mode C vails for both Class C and B extend to 10,000 feet and the transponder is required above that so a transponder is required to fly over the top.  Often times you can request to enter the class C vail area and get permission to transition through the class C.  Thanks for the question made me review the regs for the mode c vails.

  25. wypaul added a post in a topic Vortex Generators on the wing

Ed just for the record I have removed most of the VG's from my wings on the Avid but leaving them on the underside of the HS.    They increased the angle of attack but did not reduce the stall speed for me, making the plane want to land tail low.  One of these days I may try placing them back a ways (10 or 12%) on the wing to see if it will move the center of lift to the rear and reduce the stall also.  I used the Stolspeed suggested placement the first time.
On the Quickie 2 they are there to correct a problem with the laminar flow and are placed behind fifty percent of the chord.  I used silicone to attach them on the Q and double sided tape supplied for the Avid.  The silicone maybe a problem if I repaint in the future causing fish-eyes I have been told.
