Hmmm sound like a legend in your own mind, I also dealt with Teal and he was a very helpful straight shooting guy and have had no issues with his adapter or c drive, time will tell I guess. I think your post will drive away more business than it creates unfortunately ,not my way of doing business

Hey Chris ,the Avid is looking good, I ended up adding the 18" extensions to the wing, I did have some binding in the flaperons on my avid + but it was due to crud and water that got into the flaperon pivot area, once we clean them up and got them moving freely I didn't  have any problems in flight. I only got 3 hours on it though in the spring and probably wont get any more testing on it till later this fall.

  8. marshawk added a post in a topic YAMAHA Genesis (RX-1) install in Kitfox 5

There is probably a few different ways to build the motor mount ,we ended up bringing the tail up to level the plane and had a bench on wheels the exact high we needed to sit the RX1 on. When we had all the right angle and measurements from the firewall we installed the larger  main  mount to the motor and then tacked on each of the smaller pieces from the firewall to the main mount, There wasn't much room left from the back of the RX1 to the firewall on my avid but your kitfox may have more room depending on your cowling,
    Good luck on it

    Avid wing tank repair
Does someone know what is used in the avid tanks to bond the baffles to the inside of the  tank, it looks like a white or yellow epoxy maybe. I had a tank gas cap stop venting and the tank expanded enough to seperate the inner baffles off the tank,

  13. marshawk added a post in a topic Gas tank leaking

Does anyone happen to know  what was used on the inside of the wing tanks to seal the fiber glass  baffles in place,it looks like a white or cream color epoxy or something similar. My Gas cap stop venting and my wing tank balloon out from being in the sun and seperated the baffles off the bottom of the tank. I cut some openings in the bottom of the tanks and found alot of chunks of the goop on the inside of the tanks.

I just got a gauge for balancing the carbs and still waiting for 148 main jets to arrive to try them in the next round

I agree that the soob must have more torque, the gear ratio was 2.53/1  and the yamaha is roughly 3.5/1 with the built in reduction, the soob swung the prop at 11 degrees 4800 rpm and the yamaha is now at 8 degrees(at the prop tip) and were getting 9000 rpm wot, we are still messing with the main jets to make it happy, its a bit of a pain to get main jets for the mikuni carbs  , I guess everything is going fuel injected these days. My cruise is 6500 rpm and think it was around the 80 mph in the RX1

Hi Jody ,welcome aboard,I finally receive my egts and we are also running lean, we were going to try going up 0ne or 2 sizes in main jet once we see what we have in there, probably the factory ones.Setting the prop to 8 degress pitch we were able to reach 9000 rpm, Post up some pics of your highlander project always

Hi Ed, I wish I had a better memory but I think 1 degree = alot more than 100 rpm on my EA-81 with this same warp drive prop. I had it set at 11 degrees for the soob so im thinking the RX1 with more horsepower would be at least equal to that. If I was to adjust the prop pitch to get the 8500 rpm on the rx1 I would be around the 4 degrees pitch in the prop if each degree = 100rpm ,
Well I got a fast reply back from G.T. Mills and he is saying he usually runs his 3 blade props around 6 or 7 degress on these yamahas so I guess my logic is out the window  and will take a bunch more pitch out

  25. marshawk added a post in a topic Yamaha RX1 Engines

I took out one degree of pitch in the warp drive prop which brought it down to 10 degrees , it only gained about a 100 rpm on the RX1,WOT was 7900 rpm at the 10 degrees and 7800 rpm at 11 degress, so we are back thinking it maybe a  carburator problem.I ordered a sync pro carburator tuner  and also maybe  a jetting issue, we are at 3000 ft asl, The experimenting continues .
