The Kitfoxes use a vent line from the header tank top going into the upper side of the right wing fuel tank.  Avids use a tube that goes out the top of the right side butt rib.  I have a valve in that line on my Avid, that keeps the fuel from getting sucked out in flight.  Whichever method you use, if you can see through that vent line, you will be able to see air bubbles going up as the header tank fills with fuel.  When the bubble stop, the header tank is full.  As far as fuel line size, I always have used1/4" fuel lines.  When I've done gravity feed fuel flow tests, I've gotten 10 gallons per hr with that 1/4"system.    1 1/2 times what you will ever burn with a 582. I don't think you have mount the header real high, my Avid tank bottom is about 2" above the bottom of  the plane.  The fuel line comes out about 3" above the bottom of the tank, and runs forward under the door.  JImChuk

I think I agree with Larry.  Better if it was behind the seat and then pumped forward, although, with my MK IV Avid, I fly with gravity feed with an electric pump for full throttle ops.  Engine is a Jabiru.  Header tank also needs a vent to get all the air out of it and full of fuel.  JImChuk

Where is you headed tank located now?  Also, where does the fuel exit the wing tanks?  Later Avids and Kitfoxes have the header tank behind the seat.  No issues with gravity flow to the header with those planes.  Of course you then use a fuel pump to get the fuel from the header tank to the carbs.   You should also have 1\4"ram air tubes pointing forward on the gas caps to slightly pressure the tanks to help fuel flow.  Aluminum tanks have been known to develope leaks from cracking caused by the wings flexing in flight.  JImChuk

Wow, real nice from what I could see.  I also noticed you widened the fuselage.  You will like that I think.  JImChuk

No doubt about it, if a wing came off, all of us would be wishing we had as chute.  I've made 4 landings I hadn't planned, never felt that I wished I had a chute just then.  One of those was when I had the cockpit full of smoke and I thought I was on fire.  I was in more of a rush to get to the ground just then, and the last thing I would have done is fire the chute if I had it that time.  JImChuk

I recently posted about calibrating an airspeed indicator with a  manometer.  I don't remember the title of the post off hand though.  I used a label maker and relabeled my ASI.  I checked 5 different ASIs and they were all off.  Try doing a saerch using the words calibrating an ASI or something similar to that. One thing is it acts as a large gascolator  You can also put a low fuel warning system in it to warn you that things are about to get exciting.  Wish I had had one of those a few years ago. JImChuk

If you go with uncertified fabric, you could do it for a bit under $2000 using poly fiber system.  35 yds fabric, 4 gallons each poly brush, spray, tone.  1 quart polytac.  Use lacquer thinner for thinner.   Plus tapes, or cut your own from the scraps off the wings and such.  More work though probably with the poly fiber.  JImChuk

Wow!  Let's see, last sheet of 4' x 8' x .060" lexan was about $50.   Guy could even play with hot forming doors at that price.  JImChuk

Funny thing, but I'm going to be in Jasper on Friday.  Driving through, and picking up some airplane parts on the way.  Not sure how much time I can spare, but maybe I could take a quick peek.  It the plane at the airport?  JImChuk

I currently am running warp drives on my Kitfox 1 and Avid MK IV.  I must like them, I have 3 more of them hanging on the wall.  Two 70" or 71" three blades, LH, and 1 66" 2 blade RH.

I had one that had been mounted on an Avid.  I sold it a year or so ago.  I think Kitfox gets $1500 for theirs, and that wouldn't include the grove mounting blocks either.  JImChuk

I did not find the video boring at all.  And I sure wish I could have found fast workers like you when I had people working for me ;-)   Oh, it was speeded up?   Seriously  though, real good video.  JImChuk

I would think most any kind of structural epoxy should work.  I've infilled mine with .040" steel, but the fuselage was uncovered at the time.  JImChuk

Just looked at the lights, and they look nice.  I also saw something else I thought I would mention.  If it was me, I would infill the seat truss with 1/4" or 3/8" plywood epoxied in place.  That will stiffen up the seat truss and was recommended by the factory.  Lots of Avid and Kitfox seat trusses have been bent on landings that didn't seem that hard.  (to me????)   ;-)   JImChuk

If your gauge is accurate, I wouldn't worry about 170 degrees at 85 F with 2 people on board.  JImChuk

Not sure if you did it already, but it's very important that incoming air isn't allowed to go past the radiators.  A good seal between the edges of the radiators and the cowl is essential if you are flying in higher temps.  Not really answering your question, but that's the first thing to make sure of.  JImChuk

  23. 1avidflyer added a post in a topic Big wheels and upgraded gear wanted for Avid 4

Good point Jared about the grove gear mount.  My concern with your gear was the long leg carrying the wheel, and the rearward forces pushing against it when it hits a bump or something.  Being that it's long and not real wide where it attaches to the plane.  I wondered if it was attached to the rear lift strut carry through, it would have less leverage against it, but you can only make it so big also.  Testing will prove it out.  I do think I would make up a trailer frame to mount it to so if the gear fails when you are testing it, you don't hurt your fuselage.  But like you said, the grove is a lot narrower, so maybe yours will be just fine.  JImChuk

With the door bowed out in the middle, I don't think you would ever get one piece to fasten down without it wanting to wrinkle somewhere.  And TJay is right about having the door in place when you drill and mount the lexan.  If the door is wracked, and you fasten the lexan to it, that's the shape the door will want to stay in, and it won't want to fit the door opening and close right.  Maybe if it's close it will still fit with no problems, but like my Avid where I widened the fuselage 3", the door had to be wracked quite a bit to fit the new door opening.   JImChuk

The sail cloth on these planes is about 5 oz. per yd.  I've seen the tester used on new sailcloth pieces, and when the tester punched through, it was like a 22 going off.  Amazing how much pressure it took to push that 1/16" pin through.  Most Kitfoxes and Avids are hangared, and the fabric will probably last the life of the plane that way if you use the right amount of UV protection in the covering process.  Sail cloth doesn't get the same UV treatment.  JImChuk
