It really didn't take that long.  There are something like 36 or 37 wraps on each pole.  One continuous piece of wire, with each pole wound in the opposite direction of the one before it.  When I took the burned wire off, I counted it and saw how it was wrapped.  JImChuk

Higher temps hold more moisture than colder temps do.  Warm temps do not remove the risk of carb ice.  JImChuk

Looks like some corrosion on the connection on the sender.   Are you making a good connection?  That might change the reading some.  Can't argue with the boiling water test though.  What if the gauge reads low???  One less bit of worry removed from your mind once you start flying it, if you know you can trust it or at least know what it's really saying.  If  my memory is right, the GSC is a bit like the Warp near the hub.   JImChuk

    Winding an alternator armeture
Hi all,  not sure where to place this.  Some had had stator issues recently, and when this video popped up, I watched it.  Thought I might learn something about repairing one.   I did rewind the stator on my Jabiru engine and it's still working today.  See picture below the video link.   Found it very interesting.  I'm guessing the Chinese didn't invent the technique being used, but it's interesting watching how it's done.  JImChuk

With it being 90 above, I'm not surprised you were overheating.  Don't remember what prop you are running, but a warp has very little prop blade close to the hub, (none in fact close enough)  so it doesn't push the air into the engine/radiators while on the ground as say a wooden prop would.  Try putting your water temp gauge sender in a can of water, heat it till it boils, and see what the gauge reads.  Factor in for elevation if you aren't close to sea level.  Higher elevation, lower boiling temp.   If your jetting is what Rotax calls for, for your elevation, you should be fairly close for tuning.  If anything go a bit richer for the first flights.  Lots of times the EGT on the ground isn't the same as in the air.  And always, believe the plugs more then the gauge.  JImChuk

Here are two  pics showing different dimentions for Avid aluminum gear.  Which one is yours?  Also, can you post some pictures showing the entire landing gear?  Thanks,  JImChuk

Imagine how happy she would have been if your were side by side in your Avid.  :-)  Really  though, whatever plane you take your grandkid up flying in, it's a good thing.  I have a couple of grandkids that are 5 and 3, one of these days they will be sitting next to me with a smile on their face.   I'm glad for you, and your grand daughter!  JImChuk

I'm not really interested in the tail springs,  I was just trying to clarify what Avids they would fit for others.  Avid MK IV used an 1 1/2" wide one earlier models were 1 1/4" wide.

You do have a 582 if I'm remembering right.  Most water cooled engines use the water temp instead of the CHT temp like you would if it was air cooled.  JImChuk

I would cut the middle opening.  If the fabric is glued real good to the butt rib, I might cut the fabric right up to the opening.  Should be able to get the paint off the side of the fuel tank so you can see the fuel level using some MEK if polyfiber system was used for paint.  JImChuk

Ed, if you keep talking, I'll be asking more for the wings then a flying airplane.  :-)  Just kidding of course....  You are correct in what you say though.   JImChuk

If you have a B gear box,  I would wonder if that 3 blade Warp drive prop is to heavy for it.  The moment of inertia is kind of high on Warp Drives.  Might be a question for Darrel, unless he has blessed it already... JImChuk

Ya Ed,  factory parts aren't cheap. And you still have to put them together.  Philip, I'm still thinking and planning my next project, not sure what I'll do next.  Maybe PM me your # and I'll call you??? JImChuk

    Value of heavy hauler wings??
I've got a set of HH wings that need new rib tails installed on them.  I'm thinking about doing that, probably cover and spray out to white with polyfiber, or maybe even just to the silver.  I know at times guys with short wings would like to go to the longer wings.  Any guesses on what those wings would be worth ready to go like I mentioned?  They have 14 gallon tanks in them.  They are from a C model but they are the .083" spars with 12" spacing on the ribs.  I do have the flaperons for them as well, maybe they would go with the wings or maybe not.... Seems to me there was a Jim Tomash or something like that involved in Avid at one point. I think there was something mentioned about him setting things up in Iowa or somewhere a few years ago.  Maybe this is his stuff.  I know a guy that has Brett doing a stretch on a fuselage he got from me.  Seems Brett is still involved in a very minor way.  What ever the case, I hope it works out for the best for the Avid community.  JImChuk

Believe me, my wheels are turning.  If you were closer, it would be in my  hangar right now.  Just put  another hour on my Avid MK IV with a Jabiru engine on it this evening.  The Jab isn't a Rotax 912, but I think it has a 582 beat pretty easily.  JImChuk

    Bad fuel line warning
Last year when I was rebuilding the Kitfox 1, I replaced all the fuel line with a tygon fuel line that I bought at a local Farm and Fleet type of store.  Did the same thing with the Avid this year.  Last week I noticed that the fuel line on the Kitfox 1 looked like it was real tight in one area.  I thought for sure I had plenty of slack in it when I installed it, and after looking at it and pulling on it, the hose was very stiff.  In fact, all of them were. It had definatly shrunk in length as well.  When I looked at the Avid, I found the same thing had happened to those lines.  I took some of it off and tried to crush it with a pair of pliers, put it in a vise and pulled real hard on it to see if it would break, but it wouldn't crack.  Funny thing, is it came off the barbed fitting pretty easy, not sure if it's being so stiff allowed me to stretch it easier or what.  I see lately they don't have any of that hose available, maybe others have had the same problem and told them about it.  I know I'm bringing a piece into them.  Got rid of all that hose on the Avid, and will do it on the Kitfox  before it flys again.  Fortunatly no major damage caused, although I did slip with a Stanley knife while cutting off a hard to reach piece and put an 1 1/2" slice in the side fabric,  That was not a happy moment I can tell you.  Patched it up and it's fairly hard to see, but still it bothers me to glance in that direction.  Here are a couple of pics showing that fuel line and some old, still pliable fuel line.  Notice how the old line wants to fold over, not the same with the yellow stuff.  JImChuk
PS  I run non oxygenated premium car gas only in both planes

I snapped a few pics of my  ASI manometer test outfit.   Very high teck!!  (not)  line comes from pitot port on back of ASI to a T.  One line of the T connects to the manometer, other line off the T goes to a coil of 1/4" ID tubing.   Hook it all up, pinch off the end of the coil of 1/4" tubing so it holds air.  If you start folding up that tubing in your hand, you will see the pressure (water column) rise in the manometer, and the ASI will go up.  There are known figures for the water column figures to correspond with a certain MPH shown on the ASI.  For instance, 1.70" on the manometer = 60 mph,  2.32" = 70 ect.  The manometer cost about $35 on ebay, and I bought it when I changed the gas valve on my furnace, so I had it already.  Here is a link to an article on that showing other # for other MPH readings.   Not sure if anyone is interested, but it's pretty quiet here lately so here goes.  The ASI that I relabeled this way on the ground was very accurate according to my GPS in the air.  JImChuk

Where should the static port be if I'm testing the ASI with the manometer on the work bench?  :-)  Actually I  would bet that most of our Kitfoxes and Avids have the static port  behind the instrument  panel.  All 4 of my Avids and my Kitfox 1 were that way when I got them.  JImChuk
