Hey Ed, Throttle quadrant went to a guy in RI yesterday.  He posted a bunch of Avid parts on here a while back.  I think he may still have the MK IV fuselage he had.  Maybe I'll paint the KR 1 orange with white lettering that says  "Balkan Airfarce" on each side.  (I actually live in Balkan Township.  JImChuk

Standard STOL or Heavy Hauler wings are 29' 10 1/2"   I had 2 MK IV Avids.  Both weighed 585 lbs.  One had a 582, the other a Jabiru.  Both had the HH wings.  What's in the plane that you don't need?  If the Subaru is 75 lbs heavier than the Jab or Rotax, and you use 25 lbs of lead in the tail to offset the extra 75, where is the rest of the weight coming from.  JImChuk

Looks like the tip just separated a bit.  A little wavy just in from the end, but not that bad from what  I can see.  I think I would clean out the old filler, what is it? bondo?  Clean it up good and redo it with epoxy.  JImChuk
PS  I used zip ties to keep the seat in place

Avid flyers wrap around the top of the seat truss.  If that's what he had seen before, then maybe that's the way he thought the Kitfox was supposed to be as well.  JImChuk

My PC went on the blink for a few days, and I had to use my laptop that didn't have all my pictures on it.  Here are a couple of shots of the grandkids in the KR 1 last fall.  Maybe future pilots???  Sold 5 of the 8 items I had on ebay, relisted the unsold stuff.  JImChuk

Sometimes it's kind of interesting to kind of look around the garage at the rest of the stuff, besides what the picture is about.  :-)  JImChuk

Wow,  that's some nice looking landing gear.  Wonder if it would help to have a second cross piece halfway between the wheel and the fuselage.  Maybe would help to keep those long tubes from buckling/flexing  in a hard landing??? Not sure, mostly just wondering.  :-)    JimChuk

  9. 1avidflyer added a post in a topic Access for fuel tank repair

If you are going to cut into the fuel tank, I think you will have to put new fabric over the tank area.  A patch that size really needs to go from a structural member to a structural member.  Rib to rib sideways, and front spar to trailing edge front to back.  I don't think you will be able to peal the fabric back and then reglue it into place and end up with it being tight.  Also, it's tight now, so when you peal it loose, it will most likely be to small to glue back into place.  My 2 cents worth and worth every penny it cost you!  :-)  JImChuk

The aluminum should not be going over the fuel tank if it was built according to the plans.  Did you think about trying a tank sealant like KBS coatings or Carswell's tank sealant?  JImChuk

Not sure yet Ed.  I'll have to get it out of the hangar one way or the other.  I was pulling the grand kids around in it last fall behind the ATV.  Kind of figured to jury rig some wheels on it and make it a play thing for them.  JImChuk

Welcome to the site Fabio.  This really is a good site, nice guys that are willing to help if they can.  I don't speak any Italian, but my wife does.  She was born in Floridia, Sicily.  Came to this country when she was fairly young so she doesn't have an accent, but she remained fluent in Italian.  Anyway, welcome.  JImChuk

  13. 1avidflyer added a post in a topic VNE

With my MK IV and the Jabiru engine, I could do right at 100 MPH on top end.  The .060" windshield would push up against the tubes at times at that speed.  The MK IV has a VNE of 135.  I wouldn't want to try it with that thin windshield.  JImChuk

It's not unusual for parts to come out of the jig they were built in and then warp a bit.  I've had motor mounts that you had to pull into place.  Probably most of them somewhat.  If you can pull it into place, I wouldn't worry about that to much.  JImChuk

Ya, it had a couple of misfortunate events.....  2005 and 2009.  Still, if it was repaired correctly, and has plenty of hours after that demonstrating it's airworthness, maybe not such a big deal.  JImChuk

  17. 1avidflyer added a post in a topic Anyone ever use a sea doo engine?

You do have a point Larry, but deep down inside I still think they are robbing us blind!  :-)  Also, I do wonder how hard it would be to sue Rotax from the US.  If they were an American company then all bets are off and the lawyers will come running I'm sure.  Not sure they live by the same laws we do though.  In a way, I think it all goes back to supply and demand. They have a very good product, and very little competition.  They will take whatever the market will bare.  JImChuk

Most people running 2 strokes suggest running a static RPM of 6250 or maybe even a bit less.  The engine/prop will unload in level flight and RPMs will go up from there.  Like Dusty said, lightly loaded prop = high EGTs.  And then maybe silence.  (terrible sound)  I would rather make a bit less HP and be a bit safer.  JImChuk

Just get used to using your feet!  Lead your turns with a bit of rudder.  Have a good slip indicator and do what it says.    STEP ON THE BALL!  :-)  JImChuk

PS  just did some more looking around for info on this 1200 CC Rotax engine, and found this.  Wonder how much Rotax makes on our 912 series of engines when the entire snowmobile with their 1200 CC engine costs less than $12000
At US$11,849 the 2016 Ski-Doo MXZ TNT 1200 4-TEC offers good value as its provides the latest technology, including a learning key that can be programmed to dumb down performance for new riders, and famous MXZ on-trail handling prowess. The sled is very comfortable to ride, offers aggressive handling when you want it, or cruise mode when you don’t. With its newly revitalized four-stroke engine, the TNT 1200 gives you a durable, quiet and very fuel efficient snowmobile that can be counted on for many seasons to come.

My best guess is that your tach is not set right.  I've only used the tiny tachs that you couldn't adjust.  I did buy one of the adjustable ones, and couldn't get it to work right, and ended up sending it back.  Maybe I just got a bad one.  If you are able to sit in the plane and use the brakes, are you able to hold the plane from moving at the 3400 RPM?  Doubtful  that your brakes are good enough to hold the plane in place at full power or probably even close to that.  They probably can at a normal/actual 3400 RPM.  JImChuk
At full throttle, tied off to a scale, you would probably be showing over 300 lbs of static thrust with a 582.  I've seen reading of 305 to 310 with several different props.  Got a scale?  :-)

The 582 spark plugs fire twice per revolution.   If you think you have the tiny tach set correctly, I would try wrapping the sense wire around just one spark plug wire to see what you are reading.  Although the optical tach should tell you what's going on as well.  I doubt very much that you are actually idling at only 1300 RPM or making only 3400 at full throttle.  I don't think I've ever seen a two stroke with a gear box and prop mounted that could idle that slow.   JImChuk

I would raise the idle speeds that you mention Ed to around 2500 for a smooth idle, maybe down to 2200 RPM.  At 1500 you would probably be getting lots of gear box chatter.  JImChuk

  24. 1avidflyer added a post in a topic WHOSE LANDING GEAR PHOTO w/ RUBBER PUCKS?

This seems like a much better way of doing it than the steel springs that get used on the bush gear.  Hopefully someone will run with it, and figure out how much of what color works for our aircraft.  Maybe someday I'll get around to putting the tubing together that I have had hanging off the ceiling for the last 3 or 4 years.   JImChuk
