1412 miles for me.  The registration is still current on this airplane.  Needs tons of work, but I'm sure it could fly again.  If it was closer......JImChuk

What would that much have cost from the factory new right now if it was available.  At least double, maybe more is my guess.  JImChuk

My wife painted me a sigh on a board for the hangar with those words on it, and the various planes flying from my strip at the time.  I'll have to post of picture of it.  JImChuk

Yes Ed,  the Balkan Air Farce it back in operation.  (I actually live in Balkan township)  I just got back a week ago, and am busy getting things back in order around here.  Most of the snow is gone now, but the strip is one muddy mess.  JImChuk

You are probably right TJay. Maybe in a month or so.  I want to fly it a bit more first.   I just googled it, and Mike is about 650 miles from me.  JImChuk

As far as the electric trim goes, a piece of light weight bungee cord tied to the seat truss, wrapped around the joystick, and then tied back again to the seat truss works good for trim.  Some have put a thin piece of aluminum on the stick with notches so the bungee for sure stays where you put it.  The higher up the stick you put the bungee, the more nose up trim is applied.  Cheap, simple, and effective.  JImChuk

You mention stewarts systems covering, and then mention polytone or aerothane.  Maybe that's not what you are saying, but I don't believe you should mix the two systems.  I will say this, polytone is very simple to apply, as well as the rest of the poly fiber system.  And the painting is the fun part.  The tedious and time consuming work it getting to the point where you can spray chemicals on it.  JImChuk

Well now I'm going to have to drag out my tape measure and do some double checking on the landing gear.  I know I tried to put the Avid gear on the Kitfox 1 and had to switch back to the old Kitfox  gear.   Reason for the change was the Kitfox had the early smaller style brake disks that bolted onto the inner edge of the hub, and I wanted to go with the later design that Avids and Kitfoxes use. Ended up using the Kitfox gear with a different plate welded on to hold the newer style brake cylinder.  JImChuk

I tried to put a set of Avid gear legs on a Kitfox 1 last summer, and they wouldn't work.  The bungees are further apart on the Kitfox if my memory is correct.  The brace tube that angels back was in the way of the bungee.  Until then, I thought that the gear were interchangeable, and said that in a post or two.  They will bolt on either plane however.  Maybe the Kitfox will work on the Avid, but not the other way around.  JImChuk

You need different gear for taildragger verses trike configuration.  It doesn't seem like Airdale is in business any longer.  I actually have a set of Heavy Hauler wings from a C model.  They need new rib tails put on.  Some day I may get to that project. ;-)  I'm sure there must be others around as well.  JImChuk

It would have to be a C model.  MK IVs serial # started at about 1000.  It doesn't have the rounded rudder of the MK IV either.   Empty weight of 498 is very, very light.  Also,  I didn't think the C model speedwing had a gross weight of 1100 lbs, but I've been wrong before.  Seems like a nice plane though none the less.  JImChuk

    Rib tail repair post
A couple of years ago, someone posted pictures of Avid's (Brett's) rib tail repair part.  It was the center of the rib behind the rear spar, with cap strips that ran about a foot forward of the rear spar.  I've looked in the archives and on  Brett's site, and can't find those pictures.  Can anyone help me find them?  Or for that matter, did or does anyone else build them?  Thanks,  JImChuk

I was just looking through the list of airplane kits, and see that it does not list the Kitfox 1, 2, or 3.  It starts with the Kitfox 4.  Maybe the updated list is for currently produced kits and/or from companies that are currently in operation.  The company that produced the early Kitfoxes is gone and so is Avid.  TJay, did you list your Kitfox 1 as built from parts or as a kit?   JImChuk

Trike mains and taildragger mains are different, just like you said Mark.  If one runs a want add for used taildragger gear for an Avid, probably someone will have a set they want to part with.  MK IV gear are taller then earlier gear, but I think either one would work.   Or there are several people making the bush gear that is lighter and cheaper than the grove aluminum gear.  Tail wheels are easily available new or used.  Matco, Maule ect.   Tail spring can be made fairly easy..  What else do you need?  Some chain, springs, and connectors to hook the tail wheel to the rudder.  JImChuk

    Funny you tube video
I've got way to much time on  my hands waiting to head north, and stumbled across this on youtube.  I got a laugh out of it.  Maybe you will to.  Not sure your wife will, although mine laughed at it.  Seems he has quite a few other funny videos as well.   JImChuk     https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XpFD-kgQxnI

Some people are slow learners??  Just kidding for sure.  I have an early Jabiru in my Avid MK IV.  Wonder how many hours he has put on the first 2 engines.  Hope they have the bugs figured out and removed on these new engines.  JImChuk

Is it possible to reverse the T shaped black tube in your picture?  Maybe there is more clearance on the other side and it's installed backwards????  Just guessing. :-)  JImChuk

7 gallon tanks would be about 17" wide.  14 gallon tanks are about 34" wide.  Should have no problem feeling/seeing where the tanks are or aren't. Here is a MK IV heavy hauler wing showing 14 gallon wing tank.   JImChuk

Keep at it TJay,  wont be long now!.   Wish I was working on my airplane projects.   I'm a bit further north, made it to Greenville SC where wife's daughter and grandkids live.  I'm doing projects for them now.   Women really do need a man around for those honey do projects.  I guess I got nominated here.   Keep on the fox, it will be ready for that first flight soon.  Keep up with the progress pictures also.  JImChuk
