Rotax Rick. He is you man for the job....careful though. You may end up with a little bit more power than you had before. Everyone I have talked to have been well pleased with his work and service. Look for him on Barnstormers....usually has an add or two there....My link
As for the mount it looks like a barry mount. AC Spruce should have....look at the online cat of California power systems.....Green sky adventures have a few mounts

And it will clean a server too. Just run server HD as slave from laptop hardwired.

Rush said "It's hard to beat Santa....".
Now we are one very good bit closer to becoming a third world country....if things don't change. I guess I had better buy my prop before the company goes out of business. I pray things will change for the better too. My wife reminded me of the trials David went though before he was king. This is not over. I feel like something has to break. There are simply too many riders and not enough pulling the wagon now. I feel that if China tried to cash in they would be shooting themselves in the foot .....afterall the dollar stores and wallyworld would close the doors if not for that junk from over seas. I hear Australia is doing quit well.......their selling all their resources to China.
I say impeach him and his cabinet for leaving American soldiers fighting to save lives and got no response for any plea. That's just one big thing that chaps my tailwheel. Now that the EPA new regs have been set to apply in 2013 a lot of small shops and business' will have to close or face the fines....not sure how that will play out....not enough details. Think coal fired power plants being shut down....

OK Here is a pic of the tube. I probably should clambshell this area...or at least a gusset of some strength. Fuse is upside-down .

It is the back tube !! Oh crap. Now what. I have been working on this for almost 2 days now in my head... and sleep. I have a builder in the neighborhood that I am going to visit tonight and see if he will come up to my place and have a look see. Just want it to be safe. Not really enough room to make a proper sleeve or capped repair per the manual. I will look into putting a gusset of sorts in there to beef it up. I am ready to paint....all but this. The thing that gets me now is how many of these things were / are being shipped out from out there with no remorse or warning? Guess it is like the wife says....it is what it is..... Fix it or scrap it. Glad it was not powder coated....that would have hidden a multitude of sins. Thanks for the replies...I need some food for thought.
Akflyerbob I did not get to see the pic you have there.....

    Welded a hole closed !
I had my fuselage inverted scotch-briting and cleaning and found a very poorly welded over hole in the headrack tube out near the tube where the wing bolt goes through. It had signs of contamination in the weld and was what appears to be a poor cover up of a cut-off wheel getting into the tube....so out with the weld by grinding and re-welded the tube area with my TIG. The question is have I done any damage ? The area in question was about the size of a dime or a bit largere when all the pitting was gone and re-welded. I will check to make sure of the wing fitment this week. I guess that they thought it was out of sight- out of mind thing. Just worried that welding the tube with just filler {ER70-S2} added may have weakened it somehow? It would be a real PITA to replace the tube end as the wings have been fitted to the fuse and the four magic holes drilled.....
What do you guys think? Have not found anything other than tube repair methods like splice/cap over methods approved in the "Book of accepted methods". On that note...should I have applied a half sleeve?

  8. Tree top pilot added a post in a topic D#@& Isocyanates !

Isocyanates will pass right through any charcoal filter medium. Very small particles. This information was given to me the last time I was amitted to the hopsital for this exposure. I have decided to gain the assistance of a friend to spray the topcoat. I have learned that most any exposure to chromates are very bad for you as well. Living seems to also be somewhat dangerous. Somewhat pissed at the available options.....Imron industrial coatings has won the hand. If it rejects MEK and Skydrol....I will be pleased with that for a topcoat. The biggie here with this paint is that I can get it locally,[in whatever amount I wish to purchase] is a very well suggested product, and has a very good track record standing up to way more abuse than I will subject it to. If it stands up to a Hatz being covered....I'm good with it.

    D#@& Isocyanates !
I have spent the last 5 days looking for an amine epoxy paint or something similar to the Randolph Mark2 for metal. I only need about 2 qts sprayable material. The Mark 2 Randolph is only sold in gallon quantity. >$350 materials. Not happening. So.... me being allergic to isocyanates....what to apply to my fuselage? I am about ready to go crazy. And I am going to spray it myself. Found myself looking really hard at some industrial epoxy paints that were very tough from reading descriptions. No powdercoating.... even though I have a friend that has an oven big enough to do a PA-18. He does commercial powder. So any suggestion before I brush on a couple coats of Rustoleum and call it a day ?
And yes Stewarts system is chock full of poly-isocyanates.

  12. Tree top pilot added a post in a topic Sandblast, wire brush, or soda blast ????

After some discussion with the guys at Timco aviation , they said it was becoming an alternative to media and glass bead blasting in some cases. They warned me of sandblasting will change the hardness of the outside of the tubes...like shot peening and making it harder to inspect weldments. He said it abraided the metal and would hide things from the eye. They said the important issue was the removal of all salts and application of rust inhibitor.Hold tight Also spoke with a local gent that will come to my door and take care of the job. His fee is $140 / Hr. He stated that the job would probably take 1 to 2 hours to complete. I think he will be coming out this weekend.....He blasts the parts dry...and then pressure washes the salts away and applies the rust inhiting agent at the same shot. He said he would use the compressor to blow everything dry at no extra charge. Said he finished a PA-18 last month. He knows airplanes a good bit too.

Sandblast, wire brush, or soda blast ????
My fuselage has some light flash rust on a lot of tubes from handling and sitting for almost a year. Question is that the local guys know nothing of FAA standpoints on soda blasting. I would tend to think that sand blasting would create gazilions of places for a stress riser. But I have seen other planes sand blasted and are in the air. Or would you get down to Lowes
and get a few wire cup brushes for the right angle grinder? I know this would be docter death if it got away from you....but may be the easiest and fastest way round. What do you guys think?

  14. Tree top pilot added a post in a topic Hysol 9460 source

1 to 2 kits are $105.80 {Quart size parts A and B } plus shipping. They provide a fresh product as I was told that some of their customers would only use it if it was less than 6 months from manu dates. Must be something chemical related to it others might not know. The rep here in NC was very helpful and provided links to others that use this type of adhesive. Send them an e-mail or call them up at a location near you. I am sure they will help out any way they can. Be sure to click the link in my post.....takes you to the site page.

I have fabric and will go through to a white finish....possible additional weight of 16 to 18 lds.on my project I was told. This was for tapes, stitches, tapes, primer ,UV , and finally white. I would like to see the product that has been in service....with the addition of price comparison. It is going to be tough to beat what has worked for many years and is serviced easily for the price. I like the covering process myself....somewhat soothing to see final assembly nearing at that point. I would be open to checking it out.

I get my adhesives from Hughes. They have in date adhesives as such as we wouldn't want to use HYSOL over 6 months from manufacture for critical applications. They have 46 locations from what is on their website. Friendly and fast service no matter the size of order placed.

Well I have been working a bit today and weighed a few things. My fuse, engine mount, lift struts, all empenage parts, landing gear weighs 82 pounds. My landing gear including brakes and tailwheel are near 16 pounds. Each wing at this point weighs 19.8 pounds, less cables. I should come in around 270, but am looking for things to lighten up more. May end up with a changing to a lighter power plant or changing the exhaust. Seems odd that the affordaplane with 1/2 vw flys from some airports over weight a bit....like the average weight is around 300. Go figure. Doesn't hurt to try and keep it as light as possible...hopefully it will fly like the 85 HP J3 I was taught to fly in.

I have a Ridge Runner...almost finished with the wings. I have had a setback due to building a hangar. Now I have a location to have what I need in one general area. The 503 I have is about 100 lds. with exhaust. At least what I have does....free air cooling duct and single carb...C box... 46 hp. Mocking up all the fuse goodies before I start painting steel parts. Much lighter than powder....plus I have full access to a paint booth, epoxies, and the Iwata HVLP line up. Should be part 103...only one 5 gallon wing tank and a pint header tank.

I used Hysol to bond the TE stock to the rib tails....ailerons and flaps in my case.
There is a Klingspor wood shop near me that stocks T-88 and all of the System Three adhesive line...up to gallon sizes. The general purpose resin is good to 165 deg. F. for service limits...so that is what I am going with to moisture proof the ribs. The guy that owns System Three is a home builder/pilot himself from what I have been told.
Nice work.....did you alodine your spar tubes? They have that golden tinge to them.

You just let me know where to send the funds...Play-pal works best for me...but can do a check if you need it now. I was a longstanding member of a forum {Holography} with the owner having views like yours....every one donated $10/year and all was good. I am all for this site staying....its a great place......with no BS.

As far as swag goes.... what about a decal? One that would find it's way to a back glass of you truck or in the hangar?

We use this acrylic with real good results on the other projects around....like drag cars. It seems to resist crazing from UV and is pretty tough material. Pretty reasonable prices too.

    Spar tube corrosion
Are there anyone who has had a problem with this? I am almost ready to cover and was thinking of 2 part epoxy paint...not primer....on the spar tubes and drag struts. All the wood will be sealed up. What does your manual state to do here? I would like the airframe to be safe....but not looking for it to last 20 years either. There is a ton of debate over what should be done here and there on the interweb. Just wondering what others have done before I douse them with something...........
