My yellow plane has, and I plan on using on my 1200 rebuild, regular "P-Touch" plastic labels. They stick well, are totally customizable and are water resistant.

Okay, it's settled then. You'll be flying that out to OSH this summer then, RIGHT??

We're all staying at the ultralight area. There's plenty of room for you.

A friend of mine built a flap, on a piano hinge that covers 3/4 of his radiator, hooked to a push-pull cable to the cockpit. He uses this to help regulate engine temp on his 912 powered Kitfox. Something like this may help you. I put duct tape across 2/3 of my radiator in the winter to help increase temperatures, then regulate by running the cabin heater.

That would probably cool a Big-Block Chevy! I think you would have a hard time maintaining operating temperature on a Rotax...

It's a Garmin Aera 500. Brand spankin' new. I got it down in Lakeland. This is the new touch-screen replacement for the 39x/49x series.

So far, my review of this GPS is two very enthusiastic thumbs up! Fine holiday fun!

    Okay, update time:

Bill will be released from the University Hospital on Monday to return to his home town to a nursing home/rehab facility. He's not home yet, but he's well on the way, now.

I must admit, that I didn't take many pictures on the trip. Sorry.

Here's a few facts about the route we took and my fuel usage:

    KRRL-STE-C77-MTO-CUL-APT-LGC-ACJ-CTY-Lakeland

    Lakeland-CTY-LGC-APT-CUL-C77-C35-KDLL-KRLL

My fuel stops added to 102.5 Gallons, at 31.7 hours. This averaged to 3.25 GPH.

Total trip time was 35 hours.

Well, I got home Friday morning at about 11 am. Quite a trip.

The Avid with a 912 turned back for home, 3 hours in with an intermittent oil pressure problem. He made it home safe and sound, still has not figured out the problem.Over north Georgia, the Champ broke it's crankshaft and lost their prop. They went down to a safe landing in a hay-field. We all landed at a nearby airport after watching the safe emergency landing. After a few hour delay, the rest of us continued on to Lakeland. The owners of the Champ stayed there to disassemble the plane and move it to the airport for repairs, which are still under way.Lakeland was fun. Expensive in the extreme, but still fun. I bought a Garmin Aera 500, the only good deal of the show. Money well spent. One of our party, Avid with a Jabaroo, stayed in Florida to visit with family and planned to make his own way home.We picked up the owners of the Champ on the way back through Georgia. They left their plane in extremely competent hands of Carlus Gann. In a month or so we will go back down to get it.The trip home went well until we were almost home. A line of thunderstorms was crossing our path, so the remaining six planes diverted to wait it out. The line went a bit faster than we expected, so I was the last (#4 of 6) to make it to the intended airport. The last two planes diverted again to another near by airport to wait out the squall. The first of those two, a Rans, landed safely. The second, a Subaru powered Kitfox, did not.In spite of what the news reports read, I do not believe that the wind or the approaching storm was a factor. We had been flying in stronger winds all week than what was here.

I'd have posted earlier, but Friday afternoon we had to go pick up what was left of the plane and didn't get home till well after midnight. Yesterday was the EAA Chapter meeting and post trip briefing. Today had to belong to my wife...

So, if you could please, remember my friend Bill in your thoughts and prayers. He is still very critical, but slowly improving.

    I'll post more later.

We are off tomorrow morning at 5 am.

    9 airplanes: 3-Kitfoxes, 2-Avids, a Rans, a Champ, a C150 and an Aircoupe.

Two days down, a couple of days there, then two days back. Hope to have pictures to post next week!

    Wish me luck!

Has anyone ever figured out a way of testing what resin exists in your tanks?

    Kitfox 2-strokes are mounted upright.

Some have said to me that head up is better, but I've never heard a compelling reason why...

    Randy--

That's awesome the ski is working up there in the "real" snow!

Brett & I did the testing on the prototype of this ski on my Kitfox. We saw the same benefits, but our limited snow quantity was hampering what we could test.

I'm very glad it is working well. Keep us informed on what else you get into (and out of!) with it.

So, in effect, the spar spacing on your wings was wider than the placement of the carry-through tubes on your new fuselage.

    Interesting...

Just for clarity, are you talking about the rotational orientation of the carry-through tube or bending the tube to make it "V" or "U" (exaggerated) shaped?

  23. Av8r3400 added a post in a topic How to tell if it's a MKIV

Steve Winder is gone. Talk to Brett at Airdale with questions. Get some photos and share them with Brett with your questions.

I would be conserned with "Bending" the carry through tubes to make the wings fit. This fuselage was built and welded in a jig. Unless something else is bent or ??, it should go together without need of bending or more welding. Get some photos of this and share that with Brett for his opinion before you make a decision...

IMO - He's right. The Subaru engine is too heavy for a good performing Avid.

(Leni - I've worked with the welding jig for the Avid/Fat Avid Fuselage at Airdale. I don't follow why that tube would need to be "Bent" other than something else is out of position.)

  24. Av8r3400 added a post in a topic 2 Stroke Oil

I went to a symposium at the EAA founder's wing this past weekend and LEAF (One of the three Rotax approved shops in the US) was presenting (among others). One of the topics Brian from LEAF spoke about was oils.

They used to recommend the Pennsoil 2-stroke oil, but since that is no longer manufactured, they are now recommending Aeroshell Sport +2 oil for the 2-strokes.

    Just another option....
