The two Kitfoxes I own, the 1050 model IV (yellow one) is registered E-LSA, the 1200 (kind of white one - the rat bird) is registered experimental, amateur built.

    16-Hour E-LSA Class
In a couple of hours, I'm off to Oshkosh to do the 16-hour E-LSA Class.

I'll be off the air for this over the weekend and will report back any interesting information I get. Wish me luck.

    That would work, theoretically.

With the flapperon design that we all use, you can trim them without a tab by tweaking the trailing edge with a large flat sheetmetal pliers. This was recommended to me for my heavy wing situation by my CFI/1600 hour Kitfox buddy.

I've seen this done, but as Leni and Doug have said, adjusting the wing angle sounds better and more effective.

I've been waiting and thinking on this one, Joey.

Waiting for Leni or Bob to pipe up because they have rigged planes before. My plane too, has a bit of a heavy wing and a heavy nose. I was waiting on some good ideas that may help me, too.

Just a thought (the thinking part) did you level you plane and check the washout and angle of incidence on the wings when you were putting it back together after recovering, to see if your lift struts need to be adjusted?

Also, don't discount the rudder's effectiveness at lifting a heavy wing, too.

    Joey-

I used duct tape to gap seal my KF. My technique:

with elevator full nose down I put the yellow duct tape across the top of the gap then with the elevator tied full nose up I put tape across the bottom gapCenter the elevator and smoothly stuck the center of the gap togetherThe difference was definitely noticeable, especially on flair to land. I'm able to use more flap and still fully flair.

The guy in the hangar around the corner from me has a Kolb. (100 hp)

I never flew in it but I can't get enthusiastic about a center stick...

(And for the record, Doug, you need to get your a$$ out of NY!! Move to Texas, I hear it's nice there. )

I thought that was either a east Texas or west Louisiana accent you had, there Leni...

No, I did not shed a tear when he choked (as usual) on the big game. He's Minnesota's problem now. Come back or not come back -- I could give a schmidt. Go Aaron Rodgers!!

How you doing out there, Doug?? Haven't heard much outta you lately.

BZZZZZZZZT! You get: A boot to the head. Those were British planes.

    1. B17 FLYING FORTRESS
    2. B24 LIBERATOR
    3. B29 SUPER FORTRESS

    4. B32 DOMINATOR - The competing bomber design to the B29 - was flown in the pacific. None survive today.

What about the can in the Stinson?

So, you were able to fly with the "boot" on your ankle or did you take it off?

Bet that would have hurt like a mother snowshoeing a runway...

Made it to Reno in one piece. Kind of a mess out here...

We drove over the Donner this afternoon, safe trip. No one needed to get eaten.

Staying in the Nuggett for the FEGA show with the in-laws.

I was going to ask, Leni, which one you had...

I have this one. Also has no monitor to see what you have recorded. And, gives that weird "boomerang" effect when shooting through the prop.

I'm really thinking of updating to this one.

    1. B-17

    2. B-24

    3. B-26 (Twin Engine)
Duncan would offer a hint on #3: There is only one flying example left and it used to come to OSH every year and they mostly flew in the Pacific.

    4. Duncan would require a guess before he gives a hint for #4.

Looking for 4-engine WWII bombers. (We both failed #4, too.)

The photo is a Stinson, correct. The round tank behind the cabin is hooked to the engine but not part of the fuel or oil system. It is about 12" in diameter and maybe 12" tall. It's lightweight like a coffee can.

During the whole conversation with Duncan, I couldn't help remembering the conversations with the WASP ladies. A truly amazing man.

    Video Camera Idea
Here's another video camera option, it was posted on the wings (Just A/C) forum.

    Motocam 360

This system allows up to four cameras to record to a remote control/memory unit at once. Pretty cool (if a little expensive) idea.

Joey, the pleasure was all mine to meet you, your lovely bride and your adorable little daughter.

Early on I would have said that seeing the AF Base or your Avid was the highlight, but after meeting and talking to Duncan for a little while, he is tough to beat. What a fascinating guy. How cool was that!

The other tank with the radial engine that I couldn't remember was the M18 Hellcat. (Continental 975-340 hp)

I'll be waiting for you when you want to hit OSH. Just give a shout.

If you commercial in, see how bad the $$'s are to fly to CWA (Central Wisconsin Airport). It is not far from me. I can pick you there and get you to OSH. This might be easier and cheaper than flying into GRB, MKE or APL. Definately better than trying to fly into OSH commercial (if you even could).

If you fly, leave the 'phibs on and you can land at Airdale... Brett is on a little lake.

You could ship your camping equipment to me and we'll bring it over to the campground. You can stay with our EAA Chapter group, just across from the Ultralight Area. You'll just have to rough it a little for the trip itself.

Keep me in the loop, Leni. Maybe, [brooklin accent=on]and I'm just talkin' here [/brooklin], I can arrange for you to fly in with someone...

Where would you 'commercial' to? Do you have accommodations planned? I may be able to help you there, too.

  23. Av8r3400 added a post in a topic Opinions on Matco TW's?

I took the unlocking cam out of my Maul tailwheel due to the "unlocking too easy" issue. The problem with my setup isn't the tailwheel, it's the rudder stops. If your rudder throw is too excessive, like mine is, it will unlock the tailwheel too easy. When these stops are correct, these wheels work well.

Adjusting these stop tabs is very important and only a slight change 1/32" or less will make a huge difference. Additionally, it needs to be done with the tail elevated and the spring unloaded so that your adjustment is in the configuration the plane is in on approach, not on the ground.

I don't know for sure, but I would suspect the Matco wheels operate with a wider range of locked operation before tripping to full swiveling mode.

Size-wise, I too would like a bigger wheel for off airport operations.

The article says it is a [city] ordinance preventing a/c operations on park property.

I would highly doubt that it is noted on the sectional chart. A good reminder of knowing where you are going and what their policies are ahead of time.

    Gotta love government run amok.
