Thanks for the advice. I thought about flying it home, but it comes with skis and a bunch of spare parts that wouldn't fit inside the plane. I suppose I could get that stuff shipped home. I'm also a little scared of flying an unfamiliar plane with a two stroke engine through a remote area of northern Canada. I guess I could follow the highway all the way.

I'll probably stick with the plan of trailering it home, that way I can give it a really thourough inspection before I fly it.

    Thanks again for the advice,
    Randy

Size of trailer to move a Kitfox?
    Hi everyone,

I'll be making the trip in the next few days to pick up the Kitfox IV 1050 that I have put a deposit on. I've got about a 16 hour drive each way to Yellowknife in the Northwest Territories to pick it up, including a ferry crossing of the Mackenzie River. It should be quite a road trip.

I am planning to rent a trailer to haul the Kitfox, I'm just wondering how big of a trailer I will need. I have access to a trailer that is 16 feet long and 8 feet wide, will that be big enough?

    Thanks,
    Randy

    Thanks Darcy,

I believe I came and looked at your plane a couple of months ago, and you took me for a flight in your Avid. If it wasn't you then then there's somebody else named Darcy with an Avid that looks just like yours

I'd like to make it out to some fly-ins, or even get together some Sunday and go flying with some other Kitfox/Avids or any low/slow type airplane, just need to get some time off.

I don't know the empty weight yet, haven't even seen the plane in person yet, but once I get it home I will take some pictures and let you guys know what the empty weight is.

    Thanks again for the welcome,
    Randy

It has the 582 engine although I would like to upgrade to the 912 at some point. It has the stock wheels and tires for now, soon I will probably buy the Nanco 21" tires for the 8" wheels but eventually I would like to convert to 6" wheels and the Airstreak 29" tires. Need to save up a while first though, those Airstreaks are big $$$. A Matco tailwheel is definitely high on my priority list as well.

    Hi Everyone,

I am a new memeber, my name is Randy. I live in Sylvan Lake, Alberta, Canada, but spend most of my time in northern Alberta, north of Fort Mcmurray. I just put a deposit down on a Kitfox IV-1050 that I will be picking up near the end of the month.

Just wanted to stop in and introduce myself, I'm a private pilot who previously owned a Piper Tri-Pacer, but I am excited about having a Kitfox and looking forward to doing some off airport work in it. Eventually I'd like to work my way up to landing on sandbars and river banks, but will start with less difficult off-strip stuff first. My plane also has skis so I am looking forward to trying those out next winter.
