    I'll be there but not my Avid - it's flying the beams in my second hangar for a while.  I don't think an Avid is exactly what I'd fly from Florida to Wisconsin anyway.  My 5th wheel will be in Camp Scholler again this year.

    I'm a member - it's a public group, so easy to get added, but I think if you click on the 'Buy and Sell' link above the ad, you will see all the ads instead of just the one I linked. It looks like it is already selected, but click it again and the display changes to 'all'.
    Mumble mumble mumble grumble - user interfaces these days are all designed by the young whippersnappers that grew up playing the 'find the treasure' games......, you have click on every darn thing to see if there's a treasure underneath it.

    We all like to think we wouldn't keep pulling the stick after a stall, but there are too many accidents where it is obvious that happened for me to be so certain.  In all my training, and ongoing practice, I've always pushed the stick/yoke forward immediately as the stall broke, but that's what I'm expecting and I'm ready for it.  I hope I'll do as well if I ever encounter an unexpected stall, but the startle/panic factor can't be underestimated.  The most extreme example is the Air France Airbus that was stalled fro 30,000+ feet into the ocean by a high time right seater.

    Another great find (IMHO) is heat shrink tube cartridges that fit a standard Brother PT label printer.  No $$$ dedicated wire marking machine needed.  1/4", 1/3", and 1/2" sizes are available in both white and yellow.
    Example below, there are lots of options.  With 6pt type, I can get two lines on a tube, even on the 1/4"

    Yes, the heat shrink is clear except for the two color bands indicating the size.  Very easy to inspect.  Since the heat shrink shrinks first, it basically seals the area around the solder so when it melts it has nowhere to go but where it should be.  If you pulled on a wire while the heat shrink and solder were still soft you could mess it up, but I can't think of any other way.
    The shield terminators that Garmin spec's in the G5 install manual, which are basically a shorter version of these with a pigtail preinstalled, also have a coloring on the solder that disappears when it has reached the proper heat for full solder melting.  They are a lot more expensive though - RayChem brand, and designed for inspection on military aircraft assembly.  However, I'll happily pay the price, dealing with shield termination any other way is a royal pain in the butt.  Stripping the shield back so only a quarter inch or so is out is still a pain, but much easier than trying to tease the shield into something that will fit in a terminal.
    I will say it is obvious why Garmin is more expensive.  Their install manuals are very thorough, and the little things, like the backshells on the connectors, are highly engineered.  All metal, threaded screw holes for shield termination, and I'm pretty sure they'll take a round or two before they don't work anymore.

    Easy wire splices
    I found these while I was looking for some other things Garmin calls out in their install manual for G5's.  Very easy, very secure.  Heat shrink with a solder ring in the middle.  Overlap the wires under the solder ring, hit it with the right heat gun temperature, the heat shrink does its thing, the solder melts, and when it cools just a bit the connection is very secure.  No solder dripping in the wrong place, no chance of a soldering iron damaging other wires, crimpers not crimping strong enough, etc.

    I tried the 'intensifiers' on my bone stock Model C, I couldn't tell any difference.  I rebuilt the pedals, which required changing the master cylinders to the shortest ones Matco has, and they work great now.  The geometry in the Matco documentation is spot on, if you can get the 2.5 to 1 ratio, the stock brakes work just fine (with regular tires that is)

    Usually the 'shelf life' of a product is how long it was tested and was still good.  It doesn't mean it was tested and was not good after that period, it is just the longest the manufacturer verified that it was good.  Of course, that also doesn't mean it IS good, just that it might or might not be - you are the 'test pilot'.
