Okay here is the pictures of the Cargo Pod. I just hung it on the front bracket because I didnt want to go through the whole process of hooking it up. There are four contact points.

    AVID Flyer Belly Cargo Pod
I noticed on this forum some of you desiring a cargo belly pod. I have the original belly pod for the AVID Flyer. One thought is that I could take the belly pod to CAC Plastics in Wasilla and he could make a form if enough of you Alaska AVID enthusists committed to buying one. Now would be a good time because I have not painted it yet and it is just raw fiberglass.

On Another note, he has fiberglass forms for skis and floats that CAC says will work on AVIDS. The ski form I looked at seemed very nice and large for good flotation.

    Just a thought.

I have the C Box. That would be great. If it only takes a second we can remove while you are there and you can take it back with you. I have the steering wheel puller.

    Thanks very much.

  7. lv2plyguitar added a post in a topic Rotax 582 Grey Head Rebuild

The fellow at airscrew performance came unglued when I told him I needed it machined for the ceramic seal. He said it is completely unnecessary if I use the right coolant.

The manual you have posted for download is only 15 pages. I will try it again and see if I am doing something wrong.

Thank you for your generosity in sharing the dvd and manual.

    Thanks

    Rotax 582 Grey Head Rebuild
Glad to see the forum back up. I have a mid 90's rotax 582 grey head with 2 hours on it. I decided to be on the safe side and do a complete rebuild. I am going to rebuild it myself. I am afraid the seals may go bad. Who can you direct me to that will guide me about what I need to bring the 582 grey head up to spec and take advantage of upgrades that will improve performance.

Also, I need to replace the motor mount rubber which is on a AVID flyer. Where can I get those. See attached picture

    Thanks.

  9. lv2plyguitar added a post in a topic Tail Wheel Options

So if I buy a larger spring for a cub, lets say a three leaf, are the leaf supposed to be welded together. I think they come loose. I would only use two. The single bolt sticking out of the bottom of the frame is only long enough for one spring and the groove that it lays in is only 1.25.

I have been trying to get a hold of Brett but he will not answer the phone or return my emails.

    Thanks

    EGT Question
I have a rotax 582 with the bing 64 carbs. Wondering if it is normal for egts to run a little hotter at 3500 to 4500 and then cooler at the higher rpm range. I also have the manual in flight adjustable carbs.

    Thanks

Do you see a need to have one in Alaska for an AVID.

    Mode C Transponder
Just curious what the limitations are for an AVID flyer. Can this type of plane land at Merrill field if I have a Mode C transponder?

Is there certain airspace it is limited to by law once I have a certificate of airworthiness because it is experimental?

    Thanks

I would be interested to know if I can order the cross brace with the springs only as I already have the 74" wide landing gear.

Does anybody know if that works?

    Thanks

Just ordered the 8" wheel. Thanks for the info.

I just watched a video online. The chains are only an extension of the spring. I had the maule tail wheel with two springs from rudder to wheel with no chains.

So is the width of the leaf spring standard for tail draggers?

    Thanks

Is this link the matco you are speaking of? http://www.aircraftspruce.com/menus/lg/tailwheels_matco.html

Am I correct that Airdale is the only one with the double leaf assembly?

What are chains? Are you talking about the cables to the rudder?

    Thanks

    Tail Wheel Options
Well, had an interesting time on Sunday taxiing the AVID Heavy Hauler for the first time. Definately ground loop prone. The tailwheel was the most disappointing experience. When I got home I found that the leaf was bent up into the rudder. Never took off once and never lifted the tail off the ground. Dont understand why it bent so easy.

Any tail wheel options that any of you suggest? I currently have the maule tail wheel with the single leaf spring.

    Thanks

    Gas without alcohol
Do any of you Alaska pilots know which gas stations do not have alcohol in the fuel?

    Adverse Yaw
When banking into a turn, does the AVID hold its bank correctly when the ailerons and rudder are returned to neutral or do AVID's typically need back pressure to keep it from rolling over. This question assumes that the plane has no building mistakes.

    Thanks for you comments.

    DAR Inspectors
Getting ready to apply for Air Worthiness Cert. Do any Alaska residents have experience with either Rod Russel or Greg Monette and which one is the easiest to work with.

    Thanks for your input.

Not familiar with the two stroke. I do have the in flight adjustable carbs. Any information you have to avoid stoppage would be great. Just got the idle set at 2000 rpm. Heard that improper idle adjustment can be disasterous.

Also, feel free to stop by and take a look. I need to get ready for the DAR and it would be helpful to get a once over to be ready.

    Thanks
