I still stand by my original post that that hand brake is gong to get you in trouble in an unsuspected crosswind. Are the toe brakes the best I have flown...hell no but with some practice I find them easy to operate and they give me plenty of control over this light aircraft when needed. Most people cant keep their feet off of them and I was the same way until I learned how to fly them. It comes with practice. I will say that anyone with a shoe larger than a size 10 would have a much harder time with these small peddles. I have to wear a specific shoe when flying my Avid.

Not sure. I've seen a few of them and they were just like this one. This was on a later model Mark IV.

I would have to agree with akflyer. A larger hp version of these engine would fit our size planes better. My favorite engine to date was the Zenoah G50 opposed cylinder 2 stroke engine. It was a great running engine, quite and put out the same hp at lower RPM's then the 447. I was sad to see this engine go out of production. Another engine that was interesting was the Pegasus half 0-200 4 cycle.  The RX-1 and Apex seem to be catching on.
We look forward to see what you come up with. We need some new blood in the light engine market.

Some people need to leave carbs alone
I got a call from a guy who bought a ridgerunner with a new 503. He said it would not run right and heard I knew how to tune Bing carbs. After a brief conversation it was determined that the carbs needed re-jetted because he bought the plane at sea level and took it to an airport in Montana (3300 agl). I flew the Magnum over to his place and took the carbs apart. What I found was shocking. 1. The needles were installed on top of the cup which is a pretty common mistake. 2. One needle was a 11K2 and the other was a 15K2. 3. One jet needle was a 2.72 and the other a 2.68. That engine was suppose to run 2.70 jet needles. 4. One slide had excessive wear where the idle screw hits the slides and had a pin whole in the side of the slide. 5. either carb had a sieve sleeve installed over the main jets, 6. wrong main jets for his altitude.
The carbs were obviously brand new with the engine but the tops and the slides looked to be off older carburetors. I'm kinda thinking someone bought a new engine and used the old throttle system including slides. One white cup looks old and one looks new.  Not sure why all the jetting was so far off unless they were chasing another problem or didn't know one set of jets or needles were not the same. The pin hole in the side of the slide is a mystery too. I've never seen so much wear on a slide.
I'm looking for  (1) 11k2 needle, (2)  2.70 jet needles, (2) 153 or 152 main jets and (1) slide for a newer style Bing 54. If you have any spare parts laying around let me know.

So what happens when you come in to land in a stiff cross wind and need differential braking to straighten you out?  That single hand brake will not offer you any more protection from a ground loop in fact it will compound the problem because applying the brakes will override any rudder inputs you may have had. If you are going to use a hand brake I would recommend installing a differential system.
I had a differential cable hand brake system on my first Avid and it worked well. It was mounted to the face of the center seat cross member to the left of your left leg. Bad thing was it took your hand off the throttle.

I've heard they are a very solid flyer. Never flown one myself but definitely one I'd like to try someday.

Cant make it this year. Will be going back in 2020 for sure. This year the West crew will be meeting up at Dead cow for the Stol Drags. Should be a great weekend.

My guess would be either mounting for a belly pod or aerial spray application.

I like this. It looks great. Any possibility of adding two more flap positions? Between zero and half and another between half and full? I added two more positions to my homemade Zenith flap handle and made it much more usable. I known my Avid doesn't have a real big flap range anyways. Just thought I would ask.

Yes, I've seen both used in the front but poly is the one most people go with. Plexi will shatter if hit. You will still get the stress cracks in the corners no matter what you use because of the tight radius in those corners. I used a heat gun to heat the bend area slightly which helped.
There are a few different manufactures of the Poly. Ask the supplier which brand is the most scratch resistant, The last stuff I installed scratches very easy and I wont use it again.
