any windshield overlap on fuselage but ribs?
Going to install the wings tomorrow (sat).  I notice I have about a 3/8" outboard overlap of the windshield on the wing root ribs. (windshield slightly larger than the cockpit width at the wing roots).

My hope is that the wing will fit underneath this?

Are these typically left in this manner or trimmed to be flush with the fuselage wing root ribs?

I should have added these are the RV hoses, which feed/hold injection oil.  They are a rubber with a fabric exterior.

why only 6 bolts (Rotax 582 Exhaust)
Riddle me this, why do they (Rotax) leave out the inboard upper bolts on the exhaust manifold for the 582?

Ah... but the injection oil is always there working regardless of where the fuel source comes from (as they are separate streams), or even if there is no fuel at all..

    582 rotary valve hose installs
Replacing the hoses on my 582 Mod 90 engine.  Using new OEM hose.  However the ID is significantly smaller that the tubes it connects to.

What a BEAR!  Got two partially on, but... there has got to be a way to do this (maybe preheat the ends in hot oil or something)?

Anyone have tricks of the trade on this?

My painter recommended aerothane for the flaperons (or anything not fabric).  Actually shot the whole bird in aerothane to avoid any color mismatches.  Aluminum pieces (and fiberglass) came out fantastic.

    Hi Ed:

My but ribs are fabric covered (open only in the sight glass center hole), so... may most likley drill holes through the wood sections.  My shut off valves are located on the 45 degree struts/tubing leading up to the rib area.

    But Rib Fuel Line Routing
Anyone have have pics of the fuel line routing at the but rib (where the wing tank lines enter the cockpit)?  I am planning to drill holes to match those on the wing rib, but though I would check to see if there are any other better options/thoughts out there.

    Gas Cap Seal?
Almost ready to fuel up for the first time.  However, my gas caps are missing the seals.  Anyone have a source for these?  Maybe even the material and thickness and I can make a set?

These are the OEM for a Kitfox Model III wing tank, Part # WT-2, base part by Eaton.

I see a "similar" sized cap on the Eaton sire indicating a 1/16" rubber gasket?

    Any thoughts here appreciated,

Just an update on the paint quantity.  3 gallons of color will get the whole thing (though just get it, depends on color and coverage).

Intalling wing tank vent line (at the tank)
Getting ready to intall the wing tank vent line (the connection at the gas tank). However, I only have an inch and a half (between the tank and outer rib) in which to make the radius To include the fitting). It appears to be 1/4 NPT hole into the tank, right at the top, with no room to swing an elbow (only a straight fitting). How do you guys handle this? Probably some sort of fitting and female/female elbow?

  18. LSaupe added a post in a topic She's got an N number

T.J., 3 gallons of red (which is 3 coats) over 1 gallon of white (one coat).  This covered the fusalage and wings.  However, I still need to do the flaperons (this weekend) and the engine cowls and wing tips so maybe another quart or two (gonna be close).  4 Gallons would get the whole plane for sure, maybe 3.5 depending on color.

We will also be adding a full length silver stripe with black outline (similar to the N numbers)

    Break lines and fittings
Geting ready to plumb up by break lines.  Question is though, is there any thing special about these lines?  From sone of the planes I have seen it looked to be a white plastic with brass compression fittings.  Possibly hardware store variety tubing or is there a specific material I should be souring here?

Fuel Shut Off Valves (wing) - suggestions
I will be placing shut off vales in each wing fuel feed line (vertical run between the tank and header tank).  Using aluminum fuel line and AN-5 fittings (though can easily accomodate/adapt tp NPT (1/8" or 1/4").

Amazed at how pricey these buggers are looking through aircraft spruce and a few others.  Just need a decent fuel tolerant ball valve.  Any suggestions?

Would like to keep it under $40.00 per valve, not be too bulky and easy to operate.

    Any thoughts here appreciated.
