I picked up an AVID last week. The plane appears to be a "C" Model extended speedwing. . .062 spars, 3/4 inch lift struts. HAs "B" model cowl, radiator on the side.
The airframe seems to be in good condition, does not seem to have much wear. It has been flown little, if at all. No registration, no logs. It apparently had a Rotax 532 on it at one time.
At present, there is a HAPI (VW) engine mounted on the airframe. I believe it is a 1600. There is little evidence that it has ever been run on that airframe. For certain it has never flown in that configuration, as the instruments and controls are more appropriate to the Rotax. I'm still evaluating what I have.
Has anyone actually flown an AVID with a HAPI on it ?
Present plan is to build an engine test stand and see if I can get the HAPI to run mostly out of curiosity. Before that I will do a Weight and Balance. Probably wind up with a ROTAX 582 on it.

I've moved my Avid on to another owner, but he wasn't interested in the floats. Original Avid floats, not amphibs. I have the floats and the water rudders.

A friend and I picked up an Avid amphibian from a lady on the coast in Florida whose uncle had a very, very unfinished project. He and I don't have time for it at the moment, and we kinda prefer trike planes (We bought the plane because she wouldn't just sell us the BMW1200R engine that came with it)
As you can see from the pictures there isn't much there, BUT! it did come with the airworthiness certificate and old logs.
The frame appears to be pretty straight, but has been sitting outside in Florida near the coast. There's rust on the fuselage and corrosion on the wing spar tubes. My opinion is that the fuselage, struts, and elevator frame are useable, but the wings are trash, or at lease I wouldn't trust them for long, so it's probably not worth it - your call. I'll provide closeups upon request. I've taken an icepick to a few of the rust welds and haven't been able to poke it through the welds or surrounding tubing. I'd fly it.... after a lot of work.
We're selling this airworthiness certificate and any of the parts of the plane you want. Under 14 CFR section 21.179 you can transfer this cert to a similar design. If you want to get into this as a project I downloaded and printed the Amphib build manual, which I'll provide. It seems detailed enough if you have the skills needed to build from scratch.
Asking $1,700. Negotiable.
Now located in Bassville Park, FL. Will deliver for free if local, and we can work out what delivery is worth if you aren't.

There's an Avid Amphibian (N434YD) that the owner/builder might be willing to sell in Michigan. This is not his first build, or second, or.. Airworthiness issued in 2015, no damage history. Builder logs are available. Set up with steam gauges and an EIS, 43 hours TTAF, 106 hours on the Rotax 912 (100hp). Too many builds in the hangars, and all but this one now have Lycomings. (several kitfox, and the current amphibians are on pontoons).
IVO (medium) propeller, he has the hardware to convert it to in-flight adjustable, but built it to light sport specs, and registered it as a 2 seater (as I did on mine). 783 empty, Stainless steel header, custom paint, 29 gallons (center tank and 1 wing tank) total fuel capacity. No trailer included, but might be flexible in meeting partway?

For the folks up north, this looks interesting- two wing tanks, not enough info on the rest of the project. I already have an inquiry in on the tailwheel installation. From the bones, it's a catalina, not an amphibian, If someone contacts/buys the project, I'd be interested in the serial number- I've tried to keep track of the cats.

Hello All. I am a new member here, and I wanted to introduce myself. I have been an aviation enthusiast my whole life, and I now I am FINALLY working on actually building and flying my own plane. I just bought a Yamaha RX1 with 250 miles on it. I intend to use the engine is some form of a Kitfox/Rans/or Highlander custom build. My goals are safety, low build cost and operating costs (I'm a middle class father), and a fun factor. Being new at this, I am happy to learn from all of you. I will be harvesting the RX1 motor within the next few weeks. So you all can school me. I am an engineer by profession, and I do know some about airplane physics, so I can speak the language, but you all have the valuable experience. I have a lot to learn about which airplane to build, how to mount the Yamaha engine, how to weld up mounts (I have a TIG welder), which gearbox is the most dependable, etc... I look forward to learning and sharing with you guys/gals..

Avid Flap Cap Piece.stl 1 reqd.
Printed with 20% Carbon Fibre filled PETG filament, 0.2mm layers, 5 perimeters, 5 top and bottom layers, 25% fill. Handle will probably require 5mm brim for printing.
A 3/8" diameter x 1" spring is required, 8 x 3mm diameter x 30mm cap head screws and nylon nuts also required.
Flap system may require adjustment to give zero degrees on the fully forward detent, the fully aft detent should give 15 degrees.
