  2. I got invited up to a Luscombe flyin at O22. Met tons of awesome guys, and saw tons of awesome planes.  First time flying above the clouds, what an amazing feeling. Special thanks to Jake's Air Repair.

  3. I have an Avid Speedwing. In order to keep the plane flying level, I have to use a lot of uptrim. This has apparently been a problem since day one, as the original builder had a length of PVC pipe with a big lead slug travelling inside it that could be moved front to back by means of a rope and pulley system.
The weights and balances are where they should be. The ailerons don't help.
My solution would be to lower the leading edge of the horiz stab, but to do so I would have to notch the leading edge to clear the diagonals in the fuselage rear. I have a spare horiz stab to play with, so I can do that. I can also make it adjustable within limits. I know I will also have to fabricate new "V" struts.
If I were building, I would modify the fuselage rear to incorporate a jack screw mechanism to raise and lower the leading edge, but right now , I don't want to be cutting and welding on the fuselage. Such a mechanism is used on early Pipers, and my brother's kitfox has a similar arrangement.
Any body have a better idea?

  4. For Sale one pair of Avid Flyer Speed Wings. Finished through silver.  I did not build these wings. They came with the Avid Flyer package that I purchased from an Estate Sale. I will have no use for these wings since I live in Idaho and will be finishing the STOL wings that I also received.  The flaperons will also be included with the wings, minus the control fittings. Send me your control fittings and I will leave mine on. These are the only ones that came with the package.  $1500 or best offer takes the wings and flaperons. Send me a text or call 208-631-1425 or email bradnsx@gmail.com  All are in good condition.  The flaperons have been painted white. I have a fuel cap for the wing tank.
I live in Boise, Idaho so we will have to work out the shipping if necessary.  FOB Boise.

  5. Airmaster Propeller Hub, Two pair of Warp Drive Blades-68" dia, spinner and manual. The blades were new in 1995 and have never been used. This prop and blades came in the Avid Flyer package that I purchased recently and will not work for my project.  The hub, I am told fits a Rotax gearbox flange.  That is all I know about this.  I am told that it should be worth $750, if not, make me an offer. Don't wait. I am also putting it on Barnstormers.  If it doesn't sell pretty quick I'll put it on eBay. Give me a call or text at 208-631-1425 or drop me an e-mail at bradnsx@gmail.com
    Thanks for looking,

  9. The hatrack and cargo box in my Avid Flyer C. Made out of synthetic leather glued on thin aluminium sheets. The box is as big it can be but still not interfering with the aileron pushrods at folded position. Perfect to store loose parts in the box and bags on the hatrack. The hatrack is easy removable to be able to fold wings. A cargo net could be used to secure the bags or stop them from falling on to your neck.

  10. Folks, an acquaintance has a MkIV Speed Wing kit he bought new in 92.  The only thing that he did on it was paint the fuselage.  No engine but has the 3 blade wooden prop of the time..  Hit me up w/serious inquiry and I'll refer you.  He's not put it on the market yet but definitely wants to sell it.  Asking $6500  Located in Harrisonburg VA.
  11. Hi, I just bought an Avid Mark IV with a 582 and am about to make take my first flight.  I've been doing a lot of taxiing since I don't have any tail-wheel time and am comfortable so far.
Can anyone tell me what the operating temps should read, CH and water temp?  Also What should my approach speed be for landing and flare?  What is the stall speed?
The previous owner said he flew by "feel" and never looked at the gauges.
    Thanks

  14. All,
I will be removing the floats on my Avid and putting on the bungee gear, so I can fit it into the garage for the winter. I have watched a video on the procedure for a kitfox. Chain hosted the nose while supporting the tail.

    Question
What would be the best lifting point on the nose?
    Any other tips greatly appreciated.
