  3. Water temp in my E-81 is running too close to 240 with full throttle cruise and climb.  Cools down to 200+- with reduced rpm.  Doesn't run hot all all on the ground.  Took the radiator off and checked it out, changed thermostat to new 160, and new radiator cap.  Checked temp on the ground, gauge reads 170-175, laser sensor shows 172, installed a baffle over the radiator to redirect more air through the radiator.  No change.  Running out of ideas.  Might just wait until fall for cooler weather.  Didn't seem to have any problems until this summer.
  4. Hello, Newbie here in Yakutat. Just bought a bandit, HH wings with a Subaru conversion by Stratus. purchased it a couple months ago and just got it here. while waiting to get it here, Ive been on this sight regularly and finally decided i should join, knowing Id have questions once I got it here. This is a Great site!!!  Just reading previous posts I've found the answers to most of my questions so far... Thanks Herb
  5. Buying a Avid Bandit with a 100-HP Subaru engine.  Just getting conditional at the moment, so nothing much to write about except superlative workmanship from the builder.  Has very few hours, so wondering if anyone could chime in on performance and/or handling in a similar bird.  Have flown Tomahawk for the past 9 years and will have a bit of a learning curve.
  6. Post on Subaru EA81 in 4-strokes

    Hello all,
    Not sure if I am posting this twice - just lost my sat momentarily and killed the previous post. In either case here it is again. Couple of pics below of our Subaru EA81 engine and re-drive set up. Only started flying it so too early for me to answer to many specific questions but this is what was done to the engine to modify it. Stratus profiled Cam (no longer available as far as I know, but use local engine shop), higher compression, flowed heads (flow charts to follow), stock ignition, 38 amp after-market alternator, VW Jetta radiator with stock pump and pulley regulated by 16psi cap with 190F thermostat;
    cooling works well, PCV return (right side of re-drive) line will be changed up slightly, air filter - may go bigger, wondering if it leans me a bit too much at high power settings?, electrics - simple is good and same for ignition, points are cheap..., TBI-40 works well, but it is finicki in downdraft mode,  ...and a little glimpse of the other side of the firewall. We will try to post a few more inputs as we get them over the next little while testing this set up here. If you have questions of a similar installation with the TBI, but gear driven than Willis (Marshawk) can probably give you more feedback than "moi", ..as I am only getting started flying it and testing it.

  7. Hi
    I am new to the forum but I am looking for advice. I am looking at buying an avid magnum and understand the company has been out of business for 20 plus years. How easy is it to get parts? Would you buy one the lycoming or Subaru engine? I have a 1400 ft runway. Will it fly off with 2 people?
    Thanks
