McArthur / Beluga Fun Run

Leni and I had a great time out playing on the sand and gravel bars along the McArthur River and Beluga Lake today.  We were planning to land a ridge top strip I had spotted last year but it was still mostly covered with snow so we will have to save that one for another time.  The weather was great and we got to try several good places. Explored some good camping spots, burned some dogs, and did some water skipping.  You can't beat that.  My photos of Leni skipping in a landing leave a lot to be desired; I was having a hard time zooming out fast enough as the plane was aproaching to land and still keep him in focus and in the field of view.  We had a blast; definately want to do that again.

Well it was a chore, but I found a card reader for my damn sony card.  Here are a few more of the fun from yesterday.  I have some waterskipping video but I have to get an editing program on this computer so I can cut it down.  I should have had my camera on rapid shot to get better shots of Randy playingin the water.  Guess we will just have to go out and do it again so we can get the photos right eh Randy :duno:  Lol:

The Fat Avid dwarfing my lil Avid on a sweet gravel bar between the Glacier and the lake.  There are some great big plane killing rocks to dodge on the way in here.  Larry, come on up with your lil tires, it will be fun getting helicopter pictures of the wreck being flown out

Shots of the forest fire we have going on... good thing the fn idiots chose to not put it out when it was only 700 acres, now we are around 100,000 acres burned, the winds are picking up and houses are now being burned.... Thankfully we now have 6 water bombers and a few tankers working on it.  As of a few minutes ago the national guard showed up with a few more heli's to try and save a few homes.

As I was tying down at the airport, this Huey was coming in to get some retardant added to the bucket of water.

Beautiful country, guys. Absolutely beautiful.

I'd love to fly up there someday, but as Leni says my plane (and my skill set) aren't equipped for it...

Another great trip report from you two. Making me very jealous right now as I don't have an Avid to fly....:(

I need to get the Teenie Two back out of the garage so I can fly and have a place to work on the Avid again too.

Are you going to rebuild it? That would be awesome if it saw the air again one day!

Leni, I'm not sure if it's rebuildable yet. I still need to uncover everything and see what I have left. Basically from what I can tell right now I have a good engine (minus a distributor), maybe a good left wing, good right gear, wing struts are undamaged and tailwheel is okay. Otherwise the instruments are also okay but the panel was even broken when the cabin broke up on impact.

Looks like the motor mount may be okay but I need to strip it clean and inspect it too. Not sure if it was damaged or not. I'm going to be looking seriously at the fuselage Edmo has and see if it's a viable fix or not. Really unsure where I'm at with things.

Hey guys, those are great pictures. My favorites are the rocks along the rivers. Looks like so much fun. Of course if I tried some of that stuff, I'd probably turn the plane into a ball of scrap :lmao: Keep the pictures like these coming. I for one really like to see them.

Thanks,

Luke D.

Hopefully, Lostman will take this fuselage and make a longer, better, bird to fly in.   Maybe better to build a new plane than try to repair the old one.  This one is more the size of the Highlander, but could be lightened up a bit.

I keep wondering how that Teeny Two would look with huge bushtires, and skipping water to land on sandbars!

Leni,

The news this morning says 200,000 acres now burning there - same old story - too little, too late with responses.

Hopefully the video shows up here.  I did not edit it as I am at work.  This is Randy having fun on a little gravel bar.  Note the airplane killers on short final.. you did not want the prop to stop turning on this approach!

EDIT:  I dont know why it is saying the video is moved or deleted.. if you click it, it will take you to the video and play it.

EDMO

Latest figure I saw just a few minutes ago was 192,000 and some change, with 46% containment.  A few historical structures and one lodge are in the line of fire now, but they are sending out crews to defend them as they are on the edge of the two lakes and should be pretty easy to set up pumps and defend them.  Hopefully with the cooler temps, calm winds and the little rain we are getting they will be able to get a handle on it in the next few days and snuff this one out.  The misting rain is helping, but we a good down south gulley washer to knock this one out and get some moisture in the ground, it is SUPER dry here and even the swamps are pretty dry.

Thanks for posting the video Leni.  Big Rocks, Long Props here we come. LOL.  It is a lot of fun to see what it looks like from the outside.  The water can very effectively shorten your landing roll; just don't want to get too slow or it will seriously shorten it

Or pull a boner and dip the tailwheel first.. that makes it exciting too.
