I'm thinking about buying a A model Avid.

It supposed to have a Mark-4 upgrade firewall forward 582 engine kit.

Engine will have to be rebuilt.

Just want to know if it will bolt onto a Mark-4 with out any modifications.

Also what is a set of full Lotus floats for an Avid worth.

Thx marv

The A model Avid had a welded in place motor mount. That may have been redone when they put the 582 in??? Jim Chuk

If they are amphibs, and they look like the are, a new set is more than that airplane is listed for.  Here is the link to the Lotus pricing page:  http://www.full-lotus.com/prices---floats-sets.html

It is but the fuselage has rust issues,

No windshield.

Engine has not been started in 3 years.

I would be buying it for a core engine and probably selling the rest as parts.

Seller doesn't have current N number.

He will sell the plane at that price, just not sure I'm ready to let go of the money.

Will the wings off a A model fit a Mark-4

I believe they will physically fit, but their internal structure is different. Your gross weight will drop to that of the A model. (850 pounds?)

I believe the gross weight on an A model Avid was 756. Odd number, but that's what I remember. A friend of mine has one. B model was listed as being 911 lbs, another odd number. I think the spars are the same as later models on the A, but the internal stiffeners are different, or not there at all. Just to clarify, the Heavy Hauler wings used .083 wall thickness tubes for spars, the regular wing used a .065 wall thickness. Jim Chuk

And, Kitfox still uses the same .065 wall spars and rib spacing on the 1550 lbs Gross Weight models 5 thru 7 as they used on the Kitfox 1 with 850 lbs Gross Weight. The only thing that changed was adding the spar inserts because they could no longer get the spars with the internal I-beam, and they went from aluminum drag tubes to steel, and went to 1 inch diameter struts, and larger, heavier wall crossover tubes.

I would like to see some engineer come up with the comparisons between that and Avid???
