FS: Kitfox Model 4... Bradenton, FL. $5500 O.B.O.

Hi all this is a Kitfox Model 4 that the original owner damaged the wings on landing.  He bought a new wing and has them built to the point of almost ready for covering.  New covering material is included.  The original owner passed away 3 years ago and the plane was giving to his best friend.  It has been sitting in his garage for the last 3 years and I purchased the project off the friend.  It needs flaperons, engine mount, cowling, and one wing tip.  These are the known items.  There is a main tubing in the fuselage where the rear spar attaches that is slightly bent.  I'm thinking this tube could be heated and bent to proper location; I've attached a picture showing this bent tube.  New 4130 chromally tubing is included to replace the tube if you so choose. The bent tube is on the pilot side of the aircraft.  Overall the plane is in good shape and will make somebody a great quick project.  One huge plus is this Kitfox 4 already has the Grove Landing gear and brakes.  A new firewall has been installed and a brand new windscreen is included.  The interior is in great shape and as many all ready know this has the more desired flaperon mixer alreay installed.  Please feel free to email me for any questions you have.  turbofanelectrics@yahoo.com

thanks,

Bill

Kitfox wants that much for the Grove gear or for the wing parts - If I wasn't so deep in my project, I would come and get it - maybe if I was younger?

If I had room to store it, I would get it anyway.

Thanks Ed. It's a good deal even if it had standard gear. The grove gear makes this a steal. Should make somebody a great head start. :)

Best regards

Bill

Bill,

I have cowl and engine mount, droop tips for sale. If you sell this, please pass the word. Also one flaperon.

Sorry - Droop tips are for undercambered wing - the tip rib would have to be modified, if it has the Riblett wings.

Hi Ed if I don't get any reasonable offers I may just keep this and finish it after I finish my avid model c. How much do you want for the engine mount, cowl, and Flaperon? Are they from a model 4? What engine is the mount for?

Thanks

Bill

Bill,

I sent you a PM.

If you have kept up with Kitfox progress, the cowls and mounts were the same until Model 5, and the flaperons were changed to symmetrical on the Riblett wing, and then Kitfox advertised a "new and improved" flat-bottom flaperon to replace them, which was what the first 3 models had - Caused quite an uproar from Kitfox owners!

If my circumstances were different, I would be very glad to get a Kitfox IV kit with most of the work already done, licensed and fuselage already painted, for just a fraction of the cost of a new kit - and the one part to be repaired is no big deal.

As an aside, I'd try straightening the bent chromalloy w/levered force before putting heat to it.  I've successfully managed to do so in the past on a Tcraft similarly bent.

This looks a very nice project.

Bill - curious how the response has been to your ad (sorry, just being nosey)? I find more folks would rather pay a premium for a complete item than a discount for something that needs time and effort to repair. I guess most folks are either lazy or have more money than time lol, but it only takes one to see the value and this KF4 will make someone a good project. I did read the NTSB report and know the aircraft suffered an engine (Mosler) out landing into trees. Do you know if anyone has actually done a measure of the Grove gear off the plane to verify its state? I look at your pictures and there appears to be noticeable negative camber of the wheels/tires. Perhaps it is some kind of perspective distortion with the image but the castor angle certainly should be positive with no FWF weight. I can't help but wonder if that forced landing was enough of a pancake to spring the spring gear some? FWIW, I wouldn't consider that a big deal and know from personal experience that Grove will re-bend and re-heat treat that gear for ~$500+ S&H. Also, not clear from the pics just how serious the corrosion on the wing struts is (ie., any pitting at all)? Honestly, it upsets me to see parts in such condition. Kinda looks like someone just left them out in the FL salt air for a loong time, grrrr!

Doug,

Grove will redo and h-treat the gear if it is 7075 - for an earlier gear in 2024, you may as well buy a new spring, according to them, the h-treat is different and they do them in batches.

The 7075 spring has that number stamped - the 2024 only has the serial number stamped.

When I spoke to them about my Hammerhead gear, they said they would repair either for the same price.
