Wing Tank

Inspected the wing "baggage" compartments today. Double on the left wing and single on the right, next to the 6 gallon tank. The hatches are going to need attention, perhaps this winter. Time has not been kind to the wood. The tank has, reportedly, not been used. I hope it was not attempted. The cap vent is not functional. After reading about problems with composite tanks, I was plesantly surprised. The tank is metal! Was a metal tank routine?

Aluminum tanks were tried for a while, but often developed leaks from the flexing the wings go through while in flight..... Sorry for the bad news. Jim Chuk

I had a 6gal metal right wing tank in my model 3 that did not leak anywhere other than the fuel gauge. That was an easy fix.

I think there were more problems with the metal 12-gallon tanks than the 6-gallon tanks.

Well, this is encouraging. No fuel gauge for this tank so that won't be a problem. It just has the plastic tubing.
