Aerocet 1100 rear rubber boot

just wondering if anyone knows where to get a new rubber grommet/boot for the water rudder linkage at the back of the floats. Aerocet doesn't have these & Whipline's are too big (need 2" outside diameter, approx). Has anyone replaced theirs with something else because they couldn't find one? Thnx for any info - much appreciated.

I had expected to look up an aftermarket bellows similar to what Leni posted. Also, here's a bit of history I had saved for the names, tel #'s and email addresses. No idea if they would pay off if followed...

AERO MARINE, INC PURCHASES STODDARD-HAMILTON FLOAT BUSINESS

Aero Marine, Inc., of Oregon, Wisconsin, has announced the purchase of the
GlasFloat line of composite floats for sport aircraft from
Stoddard-Hamilton Aircraft, Inc. Aerocet, which manufactures certified
floats for Cessna aircraft, originally developed the GlasFloat for
kit-built and sport aircraft, such as the Kitfox. According to Aero-Marine
President and spokesman, Sam Goodall, all jigs, fixtures, and materials
have been moved to Aero-Marine’s Wisconsin facilities where all
manufacturing, research and development, and marketing will take place.

Mr. Goodall has extensive experience in the use of this particular line,
which will be marketed as AeroMar Floats. He is a 2-time Kitfox builder,
and his float installation on his Model IV draws intense interest at major
airshows, such as the 1995 and 1996 Oshkosh, Wisconsin EAA Fly-In. "My
experience with these floats leads me to believe that they are the best
designed and best engineered floats on the market.", stated Mr. Goodall.

He continues: "Aero-Marine, Inc. will be dedicated to the production and
marketing of floats for the sport-plane market; we are not in the business
of making aircraft kits, so our only focus will be AeroMar Floats".
Tom Hamilton of Aerocet, Inc. comments: "Having spent time with the Aero
Marine people, I believe that they will give these small displacement
floats the attention they need. Sam Goodall has years of experience with
the floats, and his two partners, Jim Fahey and Paul Douglas bring even
more experience to the team. Aero Marine is working with us to employ many
of the improvements that are on the certified floats". Bob Gavinsky of
Stoddard-Hamilton Aircraft, Inc. comments: "We are pleased that Aero
Marine has taken over the responsibility for the sport aircraft line of
floats. With the experience that the folks at Aero Marine bring together,
I know that the customers, both past and future, will again have access to
a superior product and superior service. They are just what the float
market needs".

According to Goodall, installation kits for AeroMar Floats are now
available from Skystar Aircraft, Inc. for the Kitfox Model II, III and IV.
Installation kits for other aircraft makes will be available as
manufacturers work with Aero Marine to make them available. Skystar’s Phil
Reed states " We are very pleased that the floats will be available to the
market again, and that there will be the 1600 Series for the Series 5
Aircraft. We are very excited that they are in such good hands".

The new AeroMar line of floats feature a unique all-composite construction
which utilizes a closed cell sandwich core laminate. This technique makes
a tough and lightweight float that is slippery in both water and air,
comes up on the step incredibly fast, and resists leaks, corrosion, and
damage. All floats have a double fluted hull design which is the best
combination for rough and smooth water performance. Top surfaces are
textured for anti-skid, and feature a built-in storage locker. One water
rudder is standard equipment, but optional dual rudders can be easily
fitted.

> > The AeroMar 1101 is a straight-float with an aircraft gross weight of
1270 lbs.
> > The AeroMar 1102 is an amphibious float featuring stainless steel,
retractable, full castoring gear with hydralic brakes. Gross weight is
1200lbs.
> > The AeroMar 1600 line of floats are currently in development and will
retain the same great features of the 1100 line, but will have a gross
weight of 1600lbs, making them ideal for larger sport-planes such as the
Kitfox Model IV-1200 and Series V.

He no longer has the time or interest to do so. Jim can be reached by phone 608-835-7984, or by email jimfahey55(at)yahoo.com .

He can be contacted by calling his cell phone (920) 493-4777. He is not producing floats now, but has some parts available. He also has the drawings and can probably give you the specs for what you need. He has helped me a number of times.

If he can't help, let me know what part you need, and I'll try measuring up mine so you can do some reverse engineering.

If you call Jim, expect to wait a little while for him to return the call, but he will call you back. Tell him Louie said HI.

<snip>

Another posibility is a guy named Jim Fahey. He bought the molds, plans, stock, rights, and everything else for the aeroset 1100's from aerocet. He had some Old New Stock of some of the parts, but was looking for someone to buy the whole shootin' match, so he may not have anything left. His number is (920)493-4777.

I sure hope that this information is correct, and that I didn't mix them up with someone else, but at least it's worth a shot. If I am wrong, please appoligize to them for me.

Obviously, the contact to pursue is Jim Fahey. I had heard since that last 2010 post thru the grapevine that he had indeed sold off his holdings, although I never confirmed that personally. In addition to the molds, etc., I was under the impression there were some NOS parts included in his holdings so there may still be someone somewhere with parts if you absolutely need NOS.

BTW, Ron Seyffer (sp?) in Orillia, ON put electric actuators in his Aerocet 1100a's. Didn't look too hard IMHO, search up his post with pics on TeamKitfox if that tickles your interest.

Hope that helps!

that boot from TH Marine was useless. It was too inflexible and nowhere near water proof. I stumbled across a master cylinder rubber gasket (Canadian Tire part # 242077 - sorry lads south of the border) which I think will be perfect. I cut out the large "doughnut", punched a hole thru (not cut, but punched) & slipped it on the lip on the back of the float & on the water rudder shaft. Noosed it w/ lock wire. Snug fit & supple.

Thanks for the update.

We have master cylinders down here now. :stirthepot:

May be a piece of useful information for a float flyer. :snack:
