Flaperon(s) Needed !

Hey Folks.

Posted on Yahoo Groups as well......I am in need of a left flaperon, or pair.  If you have on/both available, I would love to hear from you.

Also, can anyone confirm if a Kitfox Flaperon is compatible?

Thanks and hope to hear from you.

PW_SD,

Where are you located? I have Kitfox flaperon, but forgot whether left or right - I can measure Kitfox ribs, or go to book for locations to see if they compare.

I sold a set once and the box was so big it had to go truck freight - shipping was about same as what I got for flaperons - don't want to do that again.

You may be better off to just buy the flaperon kit for one from Kitfox?

EdMO

According to my Kitfox 4 manual, the support ribs are ___ center-to-center.

That may be a mistake - Subtract 37.25 from 72.75 and you get.....35.5?

Hi Ed,

Thanks for the reply!  My understanding is there is not much/any prior example of a Kitfox flaperon on a Avid, so I may need to hold out for Avid specific flaperons.

I'm in SoCal.  Let's see what other folks have to say and go from there :)

The older flat bottom KF flaperons should work as long as the rib spacing is the same.

Phil,

It may depend on which Avid wing you have - The Kitfox was just an Avid clone until late Kitfox 4 Classic. The Kitfox rib spacing never changed - just the hangers on the late Model 4 and later.

There was a cheap Avid available in California noted on here some time ago - Joey (C5Engineer) may have some Avid parts for sale.

He is probably somewhere on or over the Earth!

... until late Kitfox 4 Classic. ...

Just to keep things accurate, the first "Model IV", aka IV-1050, was the first to use the new wing, mixer system and symmetrical flapperons with aluminum hanger brackets. The 4-Classic came along much later, after the introduction of the 5 and 6 models, hence the "Classic" monicker.

Thanks for keeping it honest Larry!

My Kitfox catalog lists the flat-bottom (A-symmetrical) kit for one flaperon at $455, but they have probably gone up by now. I just got a 9460 quart kit that used to be $100, for $134 + shipping.

Kitfox 1, 2, 3 have same hangers @ 35.5 inches aprart, center-to-center, and are flat bottomed, just like the early Avids - Kitfox was just an "Avid" Modified Clone.

Unless you have a Catalina or Magnum...

Measure your wing.

EdMO

I have a left flaperon from a Kitfox 1, but you could probably buy a new one from Kitfox as cheap or cheaper than you could buy mine and get it shipped to you. Mine needs a few rivets replaced in the inboard end.

Ed- PM'd you too :)

If you were local enough to come and help, we might make a deal.

I have no one to help me get the flaperon down to build a box for it.

You may be better off to contact Kitfox and see what they can ship you a new one for.

Sorry,

EdMO
