QUESTION ABOUT HISTORY OF AVID / KITFOX

9 posts in this topic

Posted (edited)

My memory of the past seems to be getting blurred - Maybe I am getting older?

What year was the first Avid Sold - other than the one that Dan Denny took from Dean?  Kitfox?

Yes - I remember saying that I was going to shut up and build plane,

but got to get some medical issues taken care of first.

Thanks,

EDMO

Avid I believe was 1984. Kitfox was 1986.

Kitfox came later...lots of people think Kitfox came first. Being friends with Dean be sure to correct them.

How could Kitfox come first, when it is just a clone of Dean Wilson's designed Avid, with some minor changes by Dan Denny who couldn't design a dog-house, but he sure could sell them!  Dean got screwed by his ex-partner salesman.

The Kitfox success was because of using the unique design of Dean Wilson's Avid.

You would be surprised add by how many people have never heard of Avid Flyer. I get asked at least once at every gathering I attend either what it is or if it's a Kitfox.

Maybe you should carry a large poster with Dean's photo on it, with reading, "Dean Wilson, Father of the Avid Flyer, and GrandFather of the Kitfox"!
