It weighs 588 lbs with 12.5" CofG. Is that good or bad?

Hah!

I always like to know what I can get away with, so I'm not very shy!  That sounds good, especially the cg for having the Jab. Avids fly much better with a rearward cg, mine is 14.5 inches, cg that is. And that's with a 582 and the battery over the tailwheel. My avid is 525 lbs. Weight makes a huge difference in the way our planes perform. Have fun

That's not heavy - I am trying to stay under 800 ew!  Lots heavier Soob engine than you have.
