Nice knowing you...

You've probably read it here or maybe elsewhere, but just to restate it again:

High speed taxiing is a recipe for disaster in these planes.

Tail down slow taxiing is fine to feel out the handling.  Tail up or crow hopping is only going to lead to disaster.  Guaranteed.

Don't allow your CFI to do this of try to make you do it.

Nope. I replaced the original Maul TW looong ago with a very nice API TW from my Avid+ kit. I figured I wouldn't be needing it on floats. :)

Suggestion:

1.  Take off the cam plate on that maul tailwheel!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think that is a great piece of advice.  I've been practicing slow tail down taxi the last couple days and the tail wheel has surprised me how easy it can break loose and have the whole thing start to pendulum around.

Greg - per Ed Down's 'How To Fly a Kitfox', your taxi speed should be no faster than your version of a fast walk and pay particular attention to correct aileron and elevator position when taxiing in G15+ winds. I strongly recommend you get a copy, and both you and your CFI should study it hard before heading up. A wealth of targeted info.

In case it hasnt yet been mentioned, doing initial work on grass might help a great deal.
