Tail wheel size

Going to put a new tail wheel on my plane.

Just wanted to opinions between 6 and 8 inch tail wheels.

Also just trailered the Avid 300 miles home.

I think it depends on what kind of territory you land in, and how much weight do you want on the tail and how much you want to spend.

I've got a used 6" solid Matco for sale if you decide to go that way.  I think the 8" dual fork is now about $450?

I agree size is dependent on where you want to fly. But when I switched from solid to pneumatic I never wanted to put the solid wheel on again! So much smoother and just nicer feeling to taxi with pneumatic!

I am using an 8" Matco pnuematic and love it.  Primarily using on grass strips.

Hard to beat the Matco 8" wheel. The 6" one works well if all you are planning is grass and pavement. Stay away from their 7" one. It's a wheel chair tire with a tube and I had nothing but flats with it. You will lose a little bit of AOA  on takeoff and landing with a bigger TW. Something to think about. On the flip side an advantage of the bigger TW is it slows the tail down some on ground handling and roll out. I think the weight is pretty negligible. George makes everything pretty light.
