What RADIO and possibly TRANSPONDER went here

My new ride was born in 1994, so the the radio that was here is from that era. Id like to rplace it with the same unit as the wiring antenna and harness is all there.  The head unit(s) were missing.

A link to an ebay item would be amazingly helpful. Im guessing they're stupid cheap 20 years later?

Agreed. Terra units. Not available any more but maybe find used ones.

I have them in my yellow plane (below).

Are they worth the $1200 asking price used, or should I look into something 20 years newer and modern?

I have no experience with the Terra stuff, so I can't say.  New stuff will be a lot more than that.  However, on the transponder, if you are going to fly where a transponder is required, then in 4 years you would have to buy another one.  If I were you I'd wait on the transponder until the Appareo one finishes certification.  It currently looks like it will be the lowest price ADS-B out compliance option.

Not to sure why anyone would pay that price for out dated Terra when there are modern radios like MGL's V6 for less money and way more features.  I have one in my Avid and really like it.

Plug and play, no installation needed is the main reason. Everything is already there ready for a head unit.

ADS-B Out will be required in 2020 anywhere a mode C transponder is required today.  That is only 4 years away.

I wouldn't spend $1200 on one.  I'd start over with that $1200 with a Garmin or iCom radio.

God no those are 20 plus year old units. Throw a plate over it and go with a hand held for a couple hundred bucks. Unless your flying regularly in Class C or over 10K no need for a transponder.
