Lubing Pivot tube bolts?

13 posts in this topic

Posted (edited)

I am starting to make the modified bellcranks for my controls - What is the best kind of lube to put on the bolts that go thru the 3/16 ID pivot tubes, same as the Kitfox elevator pivoting tube that hangs under the seat.  Others have written that the bolt wore and was replaced at an annual inspection.

Thanks,  EDMO

I know what the manual says,  I just wondered if there was something better.

Thanks,  EDMO

Dupont Multi Purpose Lube.  Tough as nails and lasts.  I lube everything that pivots with it.  It penetrates, cleans and leaves a  lasting non-sticky protective film.  Been using it for years.

I used a moly-lube that I don't think has been manufactured in 30 years, but the stuff is awesome.  Dave got it out of the papermill in the 70s.  Like an anti-seize only better.  (And probably wildly carsinogenic.)

Carcinogenic?

At this point, does it matter?

I guess I should wear protective goggles, face mask, rubber gloves, Tyvek coveralls and steel-toed boots when putting this on a 3/16 bolt...I think I will try the Dupont MPL.

Isn't just about everything (at least everything that works worth a damn) wildly carcinogenic these days?

Agree - Even the lard they used to grease the wooden wagon wheels will clog you arteries - Everything is BAD!  :BC:

I was wondering if anyone would recommend any of the LPS products?

I don't want my controls to get cancer! My annual is coming up....

Don't use bacon grease - I hear bacon is full of Nitro-something - might blow off your bolts before causing cancer!
