Building new struts

For those of you that built new wing struts did you reuse the bottom attachment or build all new. If you reused it how did you weld the new tubes to it. I would think you would want to get your welds clear up on the attachment for good strength. Pictures would be appreciated,

When I did mine I used 1" X.058" tubing, it fit nice and tight over the existing tubes.  Then I spent a lot of time with a dremel and a cut off wheel making cut outs on the ends so it would slide right up to the fitting and I would be able to weld the tubing directly to the fitting.  A few rosette welds as well.

That's what I was thinking too kind of a big fish mouth right to the front of the attachment.
