The value of avid mk IV kit

Hello.  Thoughts on a new 25 year old Avid mk IV kit with 582 engine   I should say un assembled kit.  I have not put my hands on the boxes of parts yet. What I would like to know is what would be the fair market value $$. I do understand if a few bits are missing that could be a few thousand dollars to buy.  Thanks for your time.   Regards Joe

No buying anymore unless you find them used, Could be a few hundred hrs to make them, Hey where you located, that could change the price, Also I would split the motor and airframe up if I was you, Seems people can only afford either an Airframe or an engine, Engine alone brand new greyhead Maybe $2000 with gearbox maybe $2500 to $3000, would need pictures of airframe to give value,

I don't think anyone can accurately give you a "fair market price" without a complete inventory and condition report of all the parts.

How much are they asking?   EDMO

I think he is a buyer, not a seller.  It comes down to how much you want it.  Somewhere between $5000 and $10,000.  That kit probably sold for $15,000 or more then, factor in inflation and the price would probably easily be double that today.  And they aren't making them either.  Does the seller have a price?   JImChuk

This a new kit powder coat frame.  I m assuming it's complete less the covering   Original price tag 1992 was $20K.   If I remember correctly at the Arlington air show back about that time   20 k got you everything except the flying lessons.  Guess I will have a look see and go from there.   My location is BC Canada  eh.    Regards Joe

Sad thing is the plane isn't probably worth the selling price.  I come across stuff like this all the time that ends up selling really cheap. Hopefully you get a realistic price I love my mkIV

I just bought a project, not in the same league as a MK4, but a project just the same for $4K. It does have a new grey head 582 with it. You can check out the pictures of what I got and compare what you are looking at in my thread "hope to pickup this project". Any way welcome to the forum and good luck with what ever you are looking at. Mike

Yes I see prices all over the board.  I just missed out on a early 90s Avid with the 532 engine  looked like a hard landing and the paperwork was all jacked up. But $1900.00 was a screaming deal.   The nice thing about this plane stuff is you can walk in with some cash and take it or leave it.  Regards Joe

Just a thought... I've seen 3 flying 582 powered MK4s sell in the last 6 months for $7500, $9500, 12k and that one had a boatload of parts and a bunch of nice mods. I wouldn't pay more than 5k for an unstarted kit and that's if it is complete. Covering one alone is pushing 3-4K nowadays. The little odds and ends, wiring, gauges, this website making you want to change things all add up very quickly. Sure youll have a new plane but if you pay 10k for the kit you'll have a plane that you have double into what it's worth and that doesn't even factor in hundreds of hours of your time.

Mine was pretty when I married her - Now she's like an old pair of shoes:  Worn and wrinkled, just like me, but comfortable!  ;<)  EDMO

Luckily my wife snapped back into shape after both of my daughter's were born . She actually looks pretty much the same after 12 years together so I can't complain at all .

Darn,  I had a Shelby Cobra Mustang parked next to my house today, and didn't take a photo!   Guess my little red Ranger and lawn tractor wouldn't count for much?  EDMO

From the sticker in the back, the Lambo must be powered by Mr. Fusion?  Does it have the new style flux capacitor, or the original? :lmao:
