Another dumb question

What is the service ceiling of a model 1 powered by a 582? I would think it would be fairly low considering there is no mixture control. So how high have you flown yours, starting from 1,000 ft field elevation or less? Mike

Mike I took my B model to 12,500 just to see if it would and I was still climbing at 300 ft/min. I took off with 25 gallons on board. I bet if you were talking and squawking and on O2 a 2 stroke powered avid would go 15+

Mike,  Mike Jacober set altitude records in Alaska with his Arctic Sparrow using a mixture control that he designed and sold - There is / was another mixture control called a Hackman - Donno if either is still available, but we have some flyers using them.  EDMO

Haha I think I've been up to 2000ft maybe with mine ? I normally just cruise around at 1200 ft .

I don't have a mixture control for my 5200 Holly carb, but I had my 318 Plymouth up on Pike's Peak, and over Loveland Pass, and it was "still climbing"!  Guess the Soob with the same carb should get me off of the ground and higher than I want to go.  EDMO
