Wow, real nice from what I could see.  I also noticed you widened the fuselage.  You will like that I think.  JImChuk

Whats the story with the Mini Max in the background?

I love the Mini Max. I plan to build one more plane for a cruiser and want a little low wing. I build part of the original Hummel Bird and really like the looks of the new H5. I’ve seen a few Mini Max airplanes that caught my eye.

I have the 147.5 main jets in my set up with the air box, I am at 3000 ft alt.here and that seems to be the happy place. I think it all depends on the design of the box as to what you will need, if we get some snow and cold temps I will be hopefully getting in some more testing soon.

What size prop did you go with , and are you happy with it?

Hi Jared, im using the 3 blade 72" warp drive, the same prop that was on my soob and it seems fine, I don't have anything else to compare it to though so once I hear more on these Luga props  i'll  see if its worth the upgrade :BC:

Hey Marshawk if you get a min to do a thrust pull with that warp that would tell alot.

I'll so the same with the Luga but it'll be later spring before I'm at that stage.  Those numbers will tell better than anything how well our intake and exhaust tuning are "getting along with each other".

My hope is to be in the ball park with Steve Henry's numbers since I'll have the same prop as he.  Of course he is far and away a better tuner than I am so I have no illusions of pulling 585lbs or anything!

I'll see if I can get a scale to do a pull test, I thought I had one kicking around but it seems to be MIA

Just curious, is the prop shaft now anywhere close to where it would have been with the 582? Wondering about how much more this engine blocks the view over the nose.  Good progress though!  JImChuk

The cowling is mounted in the same holes, no lose on visibility Lost about 4in prop clearance, made up for that with landing gear and soon tundra tires.

More progress. Cut the cowling into 4 pieces, made it 4inches longer and 5inches wider up front. So no bumps or blisters, waiting for fiberglass to dry

Started the plumbing yesterday, and wiring. Does any body put the battery at the tail to help with weight and balance? Or is that to much battery cable? What size cable for a 20 ft run? Can you use the air frame for a ground and not run that cable? I think this engine combo will be similar to a soob in weight. I know I have to build a air box but will see what happens first. I put the oil tank at stock elevation.

On my recent MK IV rebuild I mounted the battery as far back as I could.  Ran a # 2 wire for the + side, and grounded it on the frame right next to the battery, but also ran a #4 wire to the front.  You could maybe go with smaller cable, but the Jabiru wants plenty of power, and longer runs cut that down.  The Jabiru starts just fine.  I'm using a lawn tractor battery, so it's not super light, but cheap.  JImChuk

That is actually a piece of 1/2" pex tubing that acts as a conduit for any wires going back to the tail, as well as something to tie the battery cables to.  Mainly the latter.  JImChuk

Marshawk,

What degree pitch are you set ?.  What is degree of your prop hub ?

What rpm's static are you turning and takeoff and cruise rpm's.

My reason for asking I'm tweaking my MK IV and looking for starting points.

I also have the 3 blade 72 in taper tip prop from Warp Drive.

What is empty weight of your aircraft?

Thanks in Advance.

Jim

Hi Jim, I haven't flown it since april, its been a crazy year with wild fires and work so I am trying to  remember the rpm numbers, The pitch is right around 12 degrees, i'm not sure what you mean by the prop hub degree, the hub is 1 degree down from level flight line if thats what you mean, static was 9000 rpm and think I was cruising at 6500 rpm, Empty weight for the fat avid was 755 lb ,  I havent flown it since we re-jetted the carbs so not sure if the numbers will change much, it was running lean.., Cheers

Jared - how about an update, lotsa folks interested in your project. If you kept up your earlier rate of progress, you are probably finished and flying by now lol!
