Glue on ribs

I'm making a new rib to replace one that was damaged in storage, I suppose. Anybody know what glue they used to build the ribs? Clear, brownish glue, not the gray stuff. Thanks

I agree, I've used the T-88 epoxy on the rib tails I've made.  JImChuk

I'm almost sure that T88 was the original glue used to make the ribs.  Your description fits it too.  The gray stuff (9460) will work too if you don't want to buy a tube of T88 just to make one rib.  EDMO

Just for what its worth - akflyer said that he did some tests of different glues, and Gorilla glue was the strongest of all he tested - I am sure he meant the brown color that I used on the plywood joints on my leading edge covers - not the white.  EDMO

Ask Leni - I'm just repeating what he posted.  Maybe search for his post?  EDMO

The one thing I would be wondering when using gorilla glue is aging...How good is it a few years down the road. We know that with T88 but not with Gorilla.

My 2 cents

For basic strength, both Polyurethanes (Gorilla Glue) and Epoxies are stronger than the wood, so with either if properly joined the wood will fail before the glue.  Both have good water resistance.  Poly is a bit better at UV resistance, but it is more sensitive to proper joining.  If the joint isn't clamped and tight, it will foam or froth to fill it in, and that greatly reduces the strength.  As flywise said, T88 is proven, Poly, not so much.  But, this is experimental aviation....  Just have someone notify us if it doesn't work please!
