Heads up...

TODAY (10/3/18): At 2:18 PM EDT, FEMA will be testing the Wireless Emergency Alert system nationwide. Expect a message box on your phone along with a loud tone and vibration.

They put up electric reader boards on the highways in NE Oregon when they were disposing the nerve gas stored at the Umatilla Army depot.  The purpose was to alert people in case of a nerve gas leak.  My wife called them Kiss your ass good by signs..."If you can read this sign, bend over and kiss your ass good by".

The test was really annoying.  The system definitely works.

Was it supposed to go to all phones? My co-workers phone sounded, but mine didn't.

Nor did my wife's, however she did have hers muted. Rec'd the text ok, wasn't near it so no idea if vibe worked. My mobile was plenty loud, as was the tv.

Per FEMA:

Only WEA-compatible cell phones that were switched on and within range of an active cell tower, and whose wireless provider participates in WEA, were capable of receiving the message, FEMA said. In addition, if the user was on a call, or with an active data session on their phone, they may not have received the message.

Both my personal (iPhone - Verizion) and work phones (antique flip-phone texting blocked) went off. 

The work phone dropped the call I was on in favor of the alert.
