Everyone knows who the Red Baron is. How many people know who the 2nd most decorated pilot from Germany was? The link below is old footage of him performing incredible flying skills after his motor is killed.

He was probably as good as the Red Barron, but didn't have as many kills or wasn't as feared as the RB. I got interested in WW1 aircraft when I had a Fokker D-VIII kit from Aerodrome Aeroplanes. I have a pretty good library on the WW1 air war. They were the   real pilots!

Just after WWI, Udet was very active in  soaring (which was at this time the only flight activity permitted to Germans).

This could explain its exceptional ability in deadstick flight!

I really don't know what the big deal is.  I typically do a top rudder knife edge approach at 100 feet when my engine is shut off.

I do it all the time myself as well, but if I land just a bit to hard, I wake myself up!  :lmao: JImChuk
