My old fiberglass tank was installed like that. I had a dickens of a time getting it out.  Ended up destroying the tank and then cleaning the spars off. Wasn't going to use the tank anyway. The fiberglass will break away from the spar pretty easy. I sprayed WD-40 around it and it leached under the fiberglass and it separated good. Don't get carried away with the WD-40, use as little as possible just around the FG. And then clean off the WD-40 from the spar with MEK, Acetone, or some other chemical you don't want near your skin.

I  can only tell you what is on the web page since I've never seen any in person. Sounds like only plastic to me.

Wingtanks.com is Airdale Sportplane and Supply.  Good luck.

They are roto-molded polyethylene.

Yes a heat gun. I cut up the tanks and used heat to separate the fiberglass from the spars. I left the outboard end of each tank in the wing for a rib because my new tanks were slightly shorter.

Fiberglass tanks can be Ethanol capable, so don't reject them automatically. It depends on the resin used in the tank's construction. My tank is a  retrofitted fiberglass tank that loves ethanol.
