Ha, I wish, hopefully there is someone out there that’s got some secret stuff going on though.  I hope to start building the motor mount this weekend.

Get that thing flying soon bud!

That'll be a milestone - being the first "Half Apex" out there pulling an Avid / Fox! ;)

Looking good. I was scoping out an ‘07 Phazer, thinking the same thing. Looking at the choices for repowering, it’s hard to beat the Yamaha option.

A bit more progress. I have a terrible time trusting anyone to touch my projects but I just couldn’t bring myself to blast and paint this thing so I took it to the powder coater, I’m very happy with the finished product. While the airframe was being blasted and coated I got the covering off a wing, The craftsmanship looks very good so that’s a relief. After all the little modifications to the fuselage it feels really good to finally have it ready to start assembly. I have a couple projects I have to do around the house then I’ll be hard at work on the kitfox again.

What a disaster trying to post photos or add text with the pics that actually loaded. Enjoy what actually showed up I guess...

I find that if I crop a picture very slightly that it will load. Kind of a pain but I hope you'll consider taking the time to try it. You're project looks really cool.

I like the way you covered the cabane. Ive been thinking of ways to streamline mine as well. Might have to copy that idea.

I need a 582 fwf

That looks like a break Foundation to start with. I just started the journey of pulling this tank VW off the front end of my Avid A model. I might be very interested in that 582 FWF. I know you would have is a kitfox but I'll be fabricating mounts anyways.

Jeff

I have a 582 I'm selling soon minus gearbox and radiator. Going with the 3 cylinder Yamaha in my avid soon.

Chopndrag, I don’t know if you have done much research into the Yamaha motors but you might look at the apex, it seems the weight difference is negligible. The apex has a way bigger following but more importantly more people are stepping up to provide the aviation specific parts for the apex engine.

I generally load any pictures I want to post in to Microsoft paint first, resize it, usually to 30%, then save the smaller file as whatever it was with _small on the end (before the period).  The small size posts much better.

My hanger neighbor has been running the 3 cylinder model for over 300 hours with zero issues and it works great. Plus the dimensions are almost exactly the same as a 582.

Curious if you bent the turtle deck?

yes. It is 1/8 lexan abrasion resistant, pretty cool stuff, chemical and scratch resistant, I have poured gas, acetone and mek on it with no visible effect.

Standard metal brake? How do you do it without scratching the crap out of it?

I would think any sheet metal brake of sufficient size should work, I used my Magnabend but it was barely adequate.  The lexan comes with a protective film on both sides so as long as the brake is clean and doesn’t have any burrs sticking up scratches are not a problem.

Always like the clear T-deck look but I was afraid to try. Last time I used my buddy's huge old brake, I nicknamed it Ironside after the old Raymond Burr TV series. Burr being the operative word. Took me hours to clean, file and get it set up right.

I just cut them out of carbon fiber plate.

What thickness and where did you get them?

Thanks.

Amazon. I used 2mm which come to find out was way overkill 1.5mm or even 1mm may be sufficient.

Any chance you could post up more shots of the floor install, how you fastened it, and also how many pieces of plate did you use and what length X width?

I bent some thin 4130 to mount the floorboards to and tacked them in. As you can see I used poster board as well as the old floorboards for templates. The brackets I made are hard to see in the photos, if you look close you can a little bit of them.
