Yup. Just as I suspected. He's been up to fabricating again...

Larry,

Did you ask him how long he baked them and at what temperature?

Looks Good,

200º until the plastic starts to sag.  Then he helped it form to the mandrel with a couple of paint stirring sticks.

He's done this several times.  Made his own lens for the Clipper he built a couple years back.

Well it is amazing just how fast a build goes when you have friends like Dave. I should pull my pile of parts back out to WI and live in the camper for a couple weeks, I'm sure we could knock it out in no time lol.

When I wired the panel on my Kitfox 4 project, I put two hinges on the bottom of the panel.  Put somewhat of a loop in the wire so there is enough slack to fold the panel down for access.  Maybe some day I'll finish that plane and see if it was a good idea.  I do know laying on your back trying to get at something behind the panel on a finished plane is a literal "pain in the neck".  Keep at it, you'll be flying before I get the rest of the fabric on my Avid.  Jim Chuk

One of the nice things about a Kitfox is that with the cowl off, the back of the panel is completely accessible.

This is going to be a new hobby in my future...

Holy Moly, Larry - Are your building a plane or a space ship  Need computer school to fly it?

Good progress - I guess!

I plan on 4 wires - Spark, fuel, lights, and ELT (That's 3 - ELT has batteries.) Oh, Ground!

Once the windshield and glare shield are in place, that changes though Larry.  That's when you end up lying on your back trying to look up behind the panel.  I have to admit though, I don't have any radio racks and such in my panel though.  That would make a difference for sure when it comes to folding it down.  Looks good though.  Keep at it.  Jim Chuk

No doubt, a clove hitch is one of the best knots for lacing things down securely.

That is going to be one SWEET KF when it's all said and done. You are doing this the right way. Have a flying airplane and do everything you've ever wanted to do on another one. I keep looking at the pile of parts in the back of my hangar and thinking someday......

Every 2-3 cable diameters?

That could end up being a lot of lacing

I think he really meant every 2-3 cable bundle diameters, and yep, that's a lot of lacing.

This is the wiring in my yellow plane. I am attempting to be as organized as this when done.

Love the Paint scheme and expanded tail.  It all looks great.  Inspiration to get to work on mine.

Been working on the motor, see the other thread, but I've also been working on the airframe, too.

The firewall is now finish mounted with the blanket attached.  The electrical grommets and fuel line is passed through.

I hope to put the engine mount together and mount the engine in the next couple days.

I like the way you put the blanket behind the firewall - the ones in front really get dirty with the 2-strokes - Did that come ready-made, or what did you buy?  Guess it is fireproof, or just sound barrier?

Looking Good!

Sewed by the mother in law...

If your firewall meets FAA standards, .016 Stainless, or .018 Galvanized, why do you need fireproof?   Plugging any leaks from it to cowl?  I know Leni will say that they don't apply to Experimentals, but I try to go by them.

I would think that a sound barrier would be my choice inside the firewall.

I was going to say, at least the firewall might keep your toes from burning when the plastic cowl and windshield melts away, but this new format will only let you edit once, or just for a few minutes, and I seem to always want to add something...
